RAM upgrade - what kind?

Hi
Currently have some old laptops with 512MB RAM and I need to upgrade them to 2GB.
I've been having a look around but there appear to be so many different sorts and I'm not sure which is the right one.
On current RAM stick there is a sticker that says 512MB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S-555-12-A0
I've tried putting that into Google but I'm not really any clearer
I've got a quote from the people that supplied the laptops, but I need to get some other prices for comparison. Their quote says 'Mobile Memory DDR2 800MHz 2048Mb'
Is it SODIMM 200 pin that I need? (Just from looking at some pictures, that looks the same as the RAM I've currently got
)
 Can someone please advise me, so I can be certain that I'm looking at the right thing please?
Thank you

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Yes, any DDR2 SO-DIMM will do. 1GB example here for £6.99
2 x 1GB here for £11.99
Don't worry about Crucial. People link to it for the most ridiculous reasons. You already know what you need.0 -

Thank goodness I linked to it to help someone ensure they had the correct type of memory rather than a ridiculous reason0 -

They already know which kind of memory, because they have the exact details already at hand.
The Crucial Tool in this case will be useless, as it will provide less detail than the OP has now. In addition, the RAM offered will be double the price.0 -

Don't bother.
Apart from that
£14.39 inc. VAT for 1GB....no thanks.
Crucial Tool is just for people who know nothing about what they are doing or for those who just can't be bothered.0 -

The site could of course confirm what the OP knew so not useless and I never suggested buying from Crucial.0 -

Unfortunately, I can only buy from a limited number of places (something to do with accounting/finance regs) and Ebay isn't one I can use.
Amazon (not 3rd party sellers) is ok, (I know it'll be more expensive, but still alot cheaper than the quote I've got)
Would something like this be ok?Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -

Why would you need to confirm what you know? Isn't that an apt definition for pointless?
If she didn't know, you might have a point. But she had the exact details to hand.0
