Food often comes on on these, and I always raise smoked salmon, and sometimes prosciutto. Smoked salmon was for New Years or fancy occasions and prosciutto one got from a deli, it was expensive and one bought it by the slices per person, (again on quite special meals) not the packs of six and rounding up!

Smoked Salmon and prosciutto ! Hark at you.

Fancy occasions would have been a slice of honeydew melon with a glace cherry on a stick or a prawn cocktail (frozen prawns natch).

Also we had a big chest freezer back then - far bigger than anything we had now. The bottom was filled with newspaper as we never had a freezer full of food. We did have the occasional arctic roll though!

and next to the freezer would be a 56 lb sack of spuds.

Must have eaten a hell of a lot of spuds those days.

The reason kids are so tall these days is the endless supply of protein rich fish and meat - rather than our teas which were frequently egg and chips eaten at the yellow patterned formica table with endless white bread and marge.

In the early to mid seventies, we probably had the 'luxury' of a roast chicken about 4 times a year.

Neverthe less, smoked salmon and prosciutto were available to a lesser degree then and a greater degree now. Cherries and melon are still available. :)

Sausages were square slices and link sausages were advertised on the telly (Walls was the brand which I'd associated with ice cream). Sweet shops either stocked Lyons Maid or Walls ice cream. Yoghurt was advertised as if it was a Swiss concept.

First time p and m brought home a "pizza" and I asked what it was, they told me it was a cheese and tomato pie, I felt sick at the thought.:D
Everybody claims Irn-Bru was the major drink up there but I mainly remember American Cream Soda AKA Ice Cream Soda.;)
