MYHermes price increase 18th June

No I do not believe there is a conspiracy, I think couriers have realised that Royal mail have shot themselevs in the foot a bit and can increase their own costs in a very competitive situation.
Exactly. Say you were a struggling seller on ebay selling grommets and your main competitor (lets call them Royalmail Grommets) put their prices up from £2 to £6 per grommet . Would you carry on selling yours for £2?0 -
Who is going to pay for a used item of clothing or shoes and then pay £5.20 delivery charge. Not very many I would think!
Royal Mail and Hermes and possibly other courier companies are becoming very greedy but they have not worked this out properly. The amount of parcels which must cross the UK since EBay became so popular years ago must have increased the work of Royal Mail and couriers vastly which is good news for them. By putting these prices up for bulkier clothing and shoes etc, people just won't buy so down goes Royal Mail and courier deliveries and down go many jobs for the drivers also. Maybe they don't really want this extra work but I wouldn't think that is true. Do you think that they haven't really thought this through to realise that we won't be buying second hand clothing if the delivery charges are so high?
I think the 'powers that be' are trying to kill EBay and get us all back to the High Street.............thoughts anyone?
Unfortunately it isn't greed on the part of the couriers, it's reality. As soon as RM moved into having to be competitive/profitable any chance of a good deal started to go out of the window.
Ever since I started selling on Ebay, a dozen years ago, I've had to watch items I bought/sold for their weight/size/cost. Early on suppliers thought I was crazy when I started asking how much an item weighed, now they all carry that info. If an item was too big or too heavy, no matter how cheap it was to buy, factoring in the post costs often made it too expensive for the end buyer so I declined the deal.
If you've got a few items of clothing to sell and they will cost £5.20 each to post, list a few together and the chances are they will still only cost £5.20, or not much more to post. You can get a UK courier for up to 30kg for under £10..0 -

Which kind of goes to prove there is a cut off point, where either it's not worth selling an item by post, or it simply wont sell with the postage costs added on. So lack of an affordable mail service will effect business. The airmail prices caused us to axe loads on international lines. This will create a void in the carrier market, and we all know what "nature abhors"Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. ad what if that void is simply not economically viable?0 -

Yes, I concur with you on that. There may be yet other business models further still that do turn out to be economically viable.
But what I don't want is people to fall into the trap of thinking that your light-fluffy-bulky items, pillows, and cuddly toys and footballs will just be bought by people at the higher postage prices. They simply wont buy them (at least online) and all of the postal services will miss out on the revenue.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. yup,but sometimes the costs outweigh the gains for carriers
all those big light items take space
space equals a cost in logistics, as well as weight0 -
The fact is that some items will never again be viable for a private/small seller to post, sellers of those items need to wise up..0

I didnt know about the price hike, i was away last week now i have sold something today and only realised the prices had gone up when i went to print the labels.
How can it be the same to drop it off at a shop and for courier collection, doesn't make sense.0 -
I use MyHermes drop off and courier collection reguarly. I didn't know they were putting the prices up but expected it since both RM and Collect+ put their prices up recently.
I printed a label late last night and the prices hadn't changed then, it's only now I have gone to print a £3 label and it's costing £4.20. I thought I must have accidently clicked on 'signature' but then noticed the prices and insurance cover had gone up so thought I would check this board, I should check here more often!A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0
