Cheapest and most expensive items in your grocery shop?

I'm looking at stocking up a bit more than usual at the moment and have been rejigging my grocery shop a bit.Trouble is I'm a bit busy and my brain is acting up so I need a bit of organisational help :o

MrT has had some very good offers on so have been buying extra cleaning stuff for the last few shops.

I use Amazon grocery quite often too as they do have bargains at times and I have space to store stuff.

This week my most expensive item was a block of mature cheese and the cheapest was a batter mix.

Would love some ideas please to add to my list

I try to stock up on butter when it is under a pound. It freezes beautifully and then when it goes up in price like it did about a year ago I don't have to pay that much for it.

I think the two most expensive things in our normal shopping are coffee and cheese. Possibly the fish and chicken that we buy, although it depends on how you break it down--as far as initial outlay it would be fish/chicken, for weekly spend, it would be the coffee and cheese.

Have you seen the second purse challenge on the grocery board? It's a great way for stocking up on your usual items when they're on offer.

My cheapest item is usually ginger and most expensive was a block of cheese too.

Fresh meat and cheddar cheese is quite costly, both in constant demand here.

The cheapest is what I can find at a knocked down price. We had some strawberries this week @ 50p for a large tray. Reduced sticker.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

most expensive - probably cheese. its a constant battle of wits between consumer and supermarket to find cheese below £6 a kilo. its getting like printer ink for being ridiculous.
least expensive - value chicken noodles, value pasta, chick peas and dried beans. anything unhealthy (sweets, crisps) seems to always be on offer in the supermarkets too.

Thanks so much for your input its really helpful.
I never thought to look in on the grocery challenge as I'm usually guilty of going way over rather than under budget :o

I'm a total cheese a holic,I can't get through the day without at least one chunk so a lot of our budget is spent on cheese and I love the strong sort so its always a bit dearer.

I have frozen a few blocks and I stocked up on chickens and chicken breasts when MrT had them half price a few weeks ago.

Currently doing the same with lamb as they had that on offer this week but surprisingly that was cheaper than my cheese!

Can anyone recommend a good place for strong but cheap cheddar?

The best price for cheese that I've found is from I*eland and they do a big block of Mature Cheddar for £5 and the weight is 880grams. It has a nice flavour for eating and is perfectly OK for cooking with too. My biggest saving for what would be relatively expensive items is to always look in the 99p/£1 shops for things like toothpaste, mouthwash and bath/shower gels and I am currently getting Arm & Hammer Sensitive Toothpaste for 99p, Listerine Mouthwash and Simple bath Foam and Shower Gels for 99p each, much cheaper than paying £3ish in most SMs and Pharmacies. Most expensive item for us these days is meat so we're making an effort to eat vegetarian every alternate day and use cheaper cuts of meat when we do buy it
