Eggs out of the fridge.
You're not meant to keep tomatoes in the fridge (if that's where I understand you store them). They're best kept at room temperature as the cold compromises their natural flavour.0 -
Eggs are kept in the fridge in my house. Ive got a larder type fridge and not that much in the way of other cupboard space so I put what I can in the fridge.
All sauces are in the side pockets of the fridge and yes, tomatoes as well as other vegetables are also kept in the fridge. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Eggs are meant to be stored OUTSIDE the fridge, except in the USA where they have to be INSIDE the fridge.
Why?Americans douse every egg with a cleaning solution during packing that removes the natural protective barrier, hence americans HAVE to keep eggs in a fridge.
As fridges came into this country they had egg racks as copied from America. We continue to have fridges with egg shelves out of habit, not necessity.0 -
America is also of a generally higher temperature than the UK so things outside of the fridge spoil easier.
However I keep my eggs and sauces out of the fridge.
I wonder why they suggest putting ketchup in the fridge after opening. I don't want cold sauce on my hot chips thanks!0 -
Eggs and tomatoes never go in the fridge. Eggs aren't kept long enough in this house to risk going off before they're used.
Ketchup and other vinegar-based sauces I don't keep in the fridge either. I don't see the point. Mayo, yes. Mustard, never.0 -
Sauces I keep in the fridge out of the way... I love cold sauce on my hot chips! lol
Tomatoes always in the fridge or they go squidgy and no one will eat them.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
The only eggs that ever enter my fridge are hard-boiled ones. I never keep tomatoes or avocados in the fridge either. Banana is another one that should never be refrigerated.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

I don't even keep mayo in the fridge if it's in a squeezy bottle. I sometimes keep jam in there, especially in summer, as I've had a few jars develop mould.
We go through an entire tray of eggs (30) a week so they never have time to go off here either :rotfl:“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
I keep mine in the fridge, just a habit I suppose!
I also keep tomatoes in the fridge, but sauces out of the fridge.0 -
Mayo - never in fridge, DS uses it on everything, no chance to go off.
Sauces/pickles/pickled eggs - not in fridge, as they`re in vinegar!
Tomatoes - never in fridge, kills the taste.
Bananas - never in fridge, but in separate bowl from other fruit.0
