    Richmond 42% pork 11% fat £5.14/Kg
    Walls 61% pork 13% fat £6.04/Kg
    Tesco 72% pork 25% fat! £4.08/Kg
Tesco finest 85% pork 40% fat! £6.06/Kg
Tesco everyday value 50% pork 16% fat £1.24/Kg

Looks like expensive doesn't always mean better quality.

But then who eats sausages because of the health benefits? :rotfl:

why do people assume cos it breakfast for £ it must be cheap food used to create it?

At a rough guess the following cost?
    8 sausages £2
    10 eggs £1
    four tins of beans 1.50
    packet of bacon £2
    total 6.50

and i bet i could get at least 8 £ breakfast out of that? and make a small profit. This company will be buying wholesale so cheaper costs to them and more profit.
And that's w/o the extrs like cups of tea and toast, that they'll make huge profit on

Back to the sausages debate I have to say the nicest sausages I've found are the cheapo value Tesco frozen ones. God knows what goes into them as they are something like £1 for 20 but they have more taste and flavour than more expensive brands. Same with burgers, something about a cheap greasy burger thats just so much more tasty than an expensive one.
I'm the same with the Tesco Megaburgers, however since the horsemeat scandal, only the economy burgers are available, I have ended up getting larger burgers at my local butchers.

And a chicken that has been housed in too tiny a cage and been pumped with god knows what to make its eggs bigger whilst getting all sorts of illnesses due to the conditions is not the sort of poultry I want to eat thanks.

Can make all the jokes you want about it but Im still not having it.
I dont think anyone here is forcing you to. I will happily eat your portion for you. ;)

    Broken down that's:
    25p for the sausage
25p for the Bacon (assuming 8 slices in a pack)
    10p for the egg
15p(ish) for 1/2 can of beans

That comes to 75p a serving with this line up.
More than likely the beans would be the 9p a can job and the sausages could be the 20 for a £1 which would make it even cheaper!

    El cheap-o-fry-up:

    5p for the sausage
    2.5 - 5p(ish) for the beans

So could probably get it down to 65p with those items cheaper alone.
But toast and coffee/tea will bump it up as mentioned, if your really hungry you'll be glad for a hot meal at that starting price.
Some of the elderly around here that are a bit too shaky to make hot food for themselves anymore and are on low incomes would love this. They cling to their independence admirably and are often to proud to ask for any help, this would help a lot getting them something hot to eat without intruding/interfering.

    I want PoundCafe! :T

I agree, with most of your post, but why MUST the sausages be the 20 for £ versions. They could be better ones and STILL make profit!!!

I'd not say no to £ brekkie, and I'm willing to bet my bottomless pit with empty legs son would sit and have two at that price!!!
  • It just depend how much the Poundcafe plan on raking in, if they are going to really push for profits then it'll most likely be the cheapest they can get without people going "no thanks!" even for £1.
If everyone that eats there doesn't go for extras like a drink/toast/biscuits then they'll need to make sure they can get enough for the cafe overheads (wages for the cooks and so on)and a bit of profit from the £1 deal alone.
By the sound of it there isn't a shortage of customers, so they won't need to trim away at the costs too savagely. If interest dwindles then the quality might go down to keep the cafe afloat.

I'd love to know what the food was like, cost of a cuppa/toast to go with it, can they do it to take away if the cafe is full...etc
If I lived near one I'd go and try the deal to see how good/bad it was.

Looks like expensive doesn't always mean better quality.

    Talk about manipulating statistics.
I think that you would make a good politician.

For a start, a Tesco finest sausage does not contain 40% fat. That figure refers to the % of your recommended daily intake of fat.

The "finest" sausages actually contain 22.4% fat and the "value" sausages contain 17.9%. (not quite the 40% and 16% that your post mentions is it?)
The reason that the "finest" sausages have a higher fat percentage is because they contain more pork meat (85% as opposed to 50% in the "value sausages) so because of the higher pork content, their % of fat will be higher as all pork meat contains fat.

I don't eat sausages too often, but when I do, I don't see the point in buying ones that contain about 50% water and rusk.
