Not sure how I feel about this

I have had things dropped off no problem,

Still being an ebay newbie I sold a medium weight item which I had listed for both collection or delivery, buyer paid up even though she lived a few roads away - so messaged her asking if she wanted to pick up or should I have delivered. I was simply put in my place 'If I am paying for delivery I want it delivered however you decide to do so'
So delivered it was :-)

But do understand that having an unexpected stranger at your door can be unnerving.

Oh an what you have paid for P&P is what you chose to pay to get your hands on your item so that should not be the factor in this.

Do you know for sure the seller won't send a slight refund your way? Where I overestimated postage I sent back a refund even if it is an insignificant amount - but then thats what sits good with me, if I bought an item and was charged a price that I agreed before purchase i do not see why the seller should give a refund, but should s/he do so would make me happy to have done business with them.

No, you stated that you think it's wrong for sellers to deliver because buyers have the same right to decide who comes to their door. But they don't as anyone can knock on a door. And posties aren't CRB checked so they could be anyone anyway.

Then you say that if its ok for sellers to deliver then its ok for buyers to collect. But posties don't collect so that is a ridiculous argument.

And then your all encompassing argument is that everyone is different. Which we all know are we are all different hence disagreeing with each other on an Internet forum.

So basically you are saying that you don't like this idea, but your logic skills aren't up to much and are trying to argue points that don't make sense to the argument.

If you don't like it then just say so. But trying to logic your way through isn't working for you is it?

But you only sit around waiting for them if they contact you beforehand & you arrange a time to be there, not if it was an unexpected visit.

And, yes we do have a great postman :T he does know us well, he has a little chat with all the old folk he delivers to, we treat him at Christmas & no ID required (can't find the sticking-tongue-out smiley ).

But, if you were buying a pressie & trying to hide it, I think a postie delivering a parcel is less suspicious than a stranger dropping off something in a carrier bag. At least with a courier, they'd ask for the person that it was addressed to, to sign for it.

I'm not saying that was what the OP was doing, just making the point that if a seller justs turns up on the doorstep - it's not always going to be convenient

I think if I'm ever going to deliver an item in person again, I'll just stick some stamps on it to be safe!!! And I will only do it if it's faster than going to the post office.

The only time I've done this previously, I packaged it and left it on the porch myself (just like Myhermes would have done - the buyer was not in) and received positive feedback about 2 hours later. There was no hint that I had paid for postage, and I got 5 stars as far as I could tell. The bus cost me the same amount as the stamps would have, but I was going that way anyway.

I have a feeling that where people live affects how they feel about this.

What if your parcel was wrapped in a carrier bag?

It is extremely inconvenient when the postman turns up at my doorstep, but what can I do about it?

Where did i state i personally wouldnt like this ,oh wait i didnt.
Please check and reread posts #17 and #20 where i emphatically state i personally wound not mind this.
What i did say is that not everyone would like this, there are some in our society that are vulnerable who would be distressed by someone unknown knocking their door[i know someone that is in this position]
it has nothing whatsoever to do with crb checks and more to to do with routine and knowing who it is at the door.Postman are expected so become part of the routine a person is used to, not so a seller hand delivering.
Posties may not collect but many couriers do ,seeing as your lumping all delivery services together.
As for the personal attacks, dont worry hun i just tend to put those sort of things down to where they came from:rotfl:

On the whole my main point wasnt to state this is something wrong more to point out that for some people this isnt something they would be happy about or find acceptable.
