If it was a business and they sent someone out, they would have to pay them their time as well as petrol. But because eBay is the place where every Tom !!!!!! and Harry has a go at selling, people begrudge non-businesses pocketing money for just about any reason.

If a company had used a motorbike courier for what you described, it would have cost between £25 - £35 quid postage.

Edited to say if that half hour is country side, a lot more than what I quoted which is half hour from Dunstable to Luton say.

It's about 15 miles away but that isn't the point I am making, I paid for postage and he just took it upon himself to turn up - had we not been home there is nowhere it could have been left safely

Yeah it's better if they warn you.

You could of collected it and saved money.

I'm not sure that is your real concern here. If he had sent it via myhermes, they also take it upon themselves to turn up when they want and have the same dilema whether to leave the item or come back to you again at a different time.

Geez. File an INR and get your money back with paypal if you're so unhappy. Or maybe he should have left a "Sorry you were out" card and dropped it off at the sorting office so you could waste your time picking it up from there?

RedBlue, you shouldn't have deleted your post. Itr's an interesting debate and I'm sure more people on your side would come along eventually. It's a slow day on here, the sun is shining.

I've delivered in person before, and my buyers have been super-happy to get their item so quickly.

Fortunately, all my buyers were nice, reasonable people who understand that diesel is not free.

If you weren't in...well, you'll never know, will you, what the seller may have done?
