Ive been an xbox user for years and was considering getting a One at some point but the issue with the second hand games has kind of put me off, not so much towards a PS4 though.

The xbox games lineup is supposedly stronger than the PS4 which might end up swaying my decision.

I just read that PS4 will be region free, whereas Xbone will be region locked. Sony are being *very* aggressive in their pro-gamer/pro-consumer stance here. I expected them to target the xbone criticisms, but not this much. The only downside I have seen so far is they will start requiring a paid-for account to play online.
  • Before everyone starts jumping on the Sony bandwagon sit back and remember what they did last time around.

Sold a console with features they then disabled.
    Lost all your personal data.

Also remember they basically have to do the opposite of XBox, they lost the last round and need to get themselves back on top again. Competition is good mind you.

The paid for bit is a better idea than the free one - hear me out!! - if they put the money into decent servers and improve security like microsoft did for xbox live. If the service is good then I for one am willing to pay.

The whole internet connection and second hand games stuff has pushed me towards a PS4 now. I was prepared to go for Xbox again but Sony look to have won me over at least.

So lets get this straight, the OP goes on about not being able to resell your games for the xboxone second hand and everyone on the thread is in uproar about it, even though there have been 2 maybe 3 stories posted that categorically state that Microsoft have said you would still be able to sell your games on afterwards yet people are still taking no notice of it and complaining that you cannot resell your games.

    Have I missed something here?

Yes, you won't be able to sell them on places such as ebay for example where a new game can get near RRP but you will end up with trade price which is about 40% of RRP

    Its restrictive.

The price is £429 which is just about palatable but the cost of games are £55 which takes us back to the N64 days cost wise...not happy with that!

So just the auction sites then? Those places where there are very high amounts of pirated games sold along with DVDs and CDs which will never make the publishers money in the first place.

I think thats a good idea myself.

Games consoles have always been pricey upon first release but then along come the packages which make it more worthwhile.

No its not just the auction sites, games will only be allowed to be traded at places Microsoft and the games publishers allow and you can be sure there won't be many of them.

Plus if your phone line develops a fault or you move house and it takes a few days to get connected etc etc, there will be no game playing while you wait.

Its a very badly thought through policy for the game player but an excellent one for the game publishers. With restrictions like that they should be giving the console away.

As per not being able to resell games, I'm pretty sure Microsoft stated it's down to the publisher to decide whether they will be resellable, meaning that Microsoft is effectively going to have to put some sort of symbol system in place so you know when you buy a game whether you are going to be able to resell it at a 'licensed outlet.'

You can bet your bottom dollar EA will refuse all resales.

Quote, "Microsoft has stated Xbox One games will and will not be sellable, letting publishers decide if they will allow the practice on a game-by-game basis. Furthermore, games will only be sold to select partner retailers which have yet to be announced. Since games do not require discs after the initial activation, when you go to sell an approved title you will revoke the license on your account."

Not to mention that with this subscription service (unlike the Xbox Gold membership) they give subcribers tons of free games that you have access to for as long as you subscribe. They'll be giving away free* (*except for the sub fee) games for the PS3, PS Vita and PS4. You basically have an entire games collection (a diverse one too) at your fingertips for under £40 a year. They've been doing this for almost a year now and I've been subsrcibed to it for a little under that, it has introduced me to some amazing indie games and a lot of blockbuster ones too. Some of these were games I would never have played if they hadn't have been handed to me for free, and I would've missed out! So they're not only paying to play online (to improve the servers as you've mentioned) but they're paying for access to tons of games and extra content too :)

I'm very much a PlayStation fangirl, but loyalty goes both ways. If Sony had treated us (their customers) how MS have treated theirs, I'd be leaving PlayStation behind for good.
