Have to say I'll be sad not to get the new console eventually, but with the restrictions in place our house will be avoiding it.
With the new online restrictions they're basically forcing people who want to use the console to have an internet subscription too.:eek:0 -
Microsoft can go screw themselves. My xbox has never and will never go near the internet, especially since the only purpose of doing so on the new one would be so MS could spy on my usage and check I'm not using borrowed (shock horror!) games.0

Plus this more recent...whoever said about membership you only need one so they are actually saving you money by getting rid of the family account!

One can be used for multiple profiles......but does it have to be on the same machine? Or the same house?
Previously with gold family, you could have 4 different people in 4 different houses all playing together.
Judging by some quotes from other article (to give you example, one said "On that console, if you have Gold, he can use Gold as well.") it looks like its per console. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I personally don't have any issues with this.
The only difference now is that the shops that stock second hand games have to pay the publishers for each one sold.
Microsoft doesn't make any money on a per game trade-in, I suspect Microsoft simply supply the hardware and restricted access to the game database and the retailer pays for the hardware required.
You'll probably see fewer places doing it, but expect the majority of the people currently doing second hand games to continue. Yes it is down to the publishers, but I don't see why they wouldn't, it's a additional revenue stream for them that they were currently missing out, if anything they could even lower prices because they are now not missing second hand games.
Yes places like eBay sellers will dry up and it'll hit independents (if there are still any left) but the main places like Game or HMV etc will still do them.
You think game developers are going to let Sony get away with not doing this? Sony have stated that their in house publishers for SCE won't use DRM, but 3rd party (like EA) will have the option to.
All I see is Microsoft are getting it out of the way and being upfront and honest about it while Sony are either not answering the questions or being too vague and avoiding it.
Microsoft can go into E3 with a pretty clean slate and all the bad stuff behind them and can focus on the games, Sony still have to tell their customers how their DRM will work and all the nitty gritty.0 -
I doubt the pre owned restriction will put off many buyers but the requirement for an internet connection is bizarre - can see it causing a lot of problems if you net access breakdowns for whatever reason.
I think they are doing a 'Windows 8' on the XBOX.0 -

Tbh the Internet thing is the most off putting of all the restrictions. Goodness knows what would happen to people's consoles if the MS servers ever went down then there's all the other problems people might have on top of that.I SUPPORT CAT RESCUE! Visit Cat Chat to support cat rescue too.

From my understanding you will lose ability to play all games (both online and offline) until connection is re-established and your account is authenticated again.0
