I know the area around Gimson Road very well. It's a nice location, but still in catchment for the "dreaded" New College. There are only a few new-builds in the area, the one you're looking at is on the site of the old dairy and they are built in a square with all the gardens backing onto one-another. They are quite "boxy" and hemmed in, but I guess you get that with most newer houses.
Maybe you should think about Glenfield? It's got some really nice parts and a mixture of new-builds and older houses, depending on what you like. It's just down the road from Western Park and similar prices, but if you get the right side of Glenfield the secondary school catchement is Groby, a pretty good school under the control of Leicester County, as opposed to City council. Travelling time to Highfields shouldn't be more than one or two minutes more (by car), there are some good primary schools, plus a couple of good nurseries (which also do school pick-ups). You'd be a couple of minutes from the park itself and also close to Beaumont Leys and Fosse Park for shopping, etc.Addicted to Facebook0 -

Glenfield is the area I was talking about, Groby is where the kids would go to school from there (by bus).Addicted to Facebook0

lol, ok, hehe, got confused there. How far would groby be from glenfield? Walking distance?0

Not really, kids are bused there for secondary school. Lots of primaries in Glenfield that are very good and walkable - I hear "The Hall" in Glenfield is very good primary, plus Pied Piper nursery does school pick-ups, I think.Addicted to Facebook0

but isnt glenfield far from the highfields? Or is that just me thinking?0

Glenfield isn't far from Highfields - probably 20 minutes by car in rush hour as you'll have to go round St Margarets Way.
Having just escaped from Leicester after 7 years (!!), Glenfield is a nice area. We used to live just off Tournament Road, but you'd need to be further down towards the village really. Like the others have said, Glenfield is handy fro Beaumont Leys and Fosse Park for shopping, not too far from the motorway and close enough to town to not be too close to town if you get how I mean.
Absolutely DO NOT touch New Parks with anybody else's barge pole!BCSC # 9 and proud! :beer:0 -
If you want to be able to travel to Highfields easily, consider Thurmaston or Syston too, Syston is a bit further out than Glenfield though, but a good direct route into Leicester along Melton Road, then round to Highfields on a short stretch of dual carriageway. It may be an idea to enquire with some agents about catchment areas for schools then report back here. I don't have kids so I know nowt about catchment areas, though New College probably isn't the best place for your kids!0
