Searching by postcodes is not the best way to go about things, LE2 will bring up some, *ahem* diverse houses, in areas miles away from each other.

PM with your details and I can help you find a property and advise on where to buy in the Leicester area.......my initial thoughts were Western Park and LFE and there are many 4 beds in your price range.
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)
    Ignore......check!

Blaby is a nice area, not quite so close to the city, but ok.

If you want to search for Western Park, try LE3 6 - that was my post code. Browse some EA sites as well, but beware of any terraces that don't have any frontage on them, they're not Western Park. Letchworth Road runs along parallel to Hinckley Road and has some doozers on it, so Letchworth or streets off it are all good.

MissMotivation - isn't your post classed as touting for business?

Western Park is nice BUT you may be in the catchment area for one of the worst secondary schools in Leicester (rates low in overall schools in England)...the dreaded 'New College'. We may have to move if we don't get our girls in one of the two other choices (neither are fantastic schools either).

If you have children, schools should be taken into account.

Why don't you post on here any area that you have found a house that appeals to you and we can all let you know our views on the area, before you visit the house?

We are looking for a similar property size and price in Leicester too. We live in Leicester so it's easy for us to keep an eye on the market for suitable properties.

The areas we're looking in are Evington, Knighton, Glenfield, and Aylestone. These areas have good schools, amenities, near to city centre and safe neighbourhoods. You could also consider Wigston, Hamilton and Scraptoft, they are a little further out, but have large houses within your price range.

We are avoiding areas such as Highfields, Saffron Lane area, Braunstone, Beaumont Leys, New Parks, Eyres Monsell, and Spinney Hills.

Expensive areas are Clarendon Park, Stoneygate and Oadby.

Im looking (STILL) for a house in Leciester. When i search for houses, the name Earl Shilton and Barwell come up quite a bit, are these good areas? I like the style of the houses and so far the pics ive seen i like. What other areas are good? Looking for a detached 4 bedroom house with at least 2 bathrooms. Spacious house is what i need and want. I like Oadby but the prices seem to be a little bit too high. My maximum is £250,000. Dont want a house by the countryside.

Earl Shilton and Barwell aren't in Leicester. They are in Leicestershire. I live in Hinckley, just down the road from Earl Shilton/Barwell, it takes about 35/40 minutes to get into the centre of Leicester from here. Not a good place to look if you want to be in the city.

Yes, the secondary school is an issue in that area, although recent news reports show that Ofsted are now happy with it. Most parents in the area charter a bus and send their kids out to Bosworth. The local primary school is excellent though, one of the best in the county.

yeh i have children so schools should be good in the area, At the moment my first child is in primary 1 and the other still in nursery. I like houses at western park but then schools arent that great there am i right? Also, one more thing, there will be everyday travelling to highfields for some reasons so shudnt be too far out. I am so confused.

As kippers said it's probably best if you post some links to houses that appeal to you and I'm sure people would be happy to give you their point of view.

I really think it's difficult to make any decision until you have come to leicester and had a look around.
