plz help regarding house purchase in leicester

Im looking (STILL) for a house in Leciester. When i search for houses, the name Earl Shilton and Barwell come up quite a bit, are these good areas? I like the style of the houses and so far the pics ive seen i like. What other areas are good? Looking for a detached 4 bedroom house with at least 2 bathrooms. Spacious house is what i need and want. I like Oadby but the prices seem to be a little bit too high. My maximum is £250,000. Dont want a house by the countryside.

If you don't want countryside Earl Shilton and Barwell may be a "little" rural for you. Oadby is, imho, overpriced tat. Leicester Forest East, Aylestone, Syston, Enderby, Western Park, Old Humberstone, Thurmaston are areas that I can think of off the top of my head. I live in the West End, nice area, but predominantly terraces and villas, lot of students, lot of let property, but a great area for being close to the city and lots of local amenities. If you go further along Narborough Road you get bigger grander properties heading towards Fosse Park.

DO NOT TOUCH THORPE ASTLEY WITH A BARGE POLE. THERE ARE GOING TO BE ISSUES WITH HAVING THE M1 AND A DUAL CARRIAGEWAY SANDWICHING THIS ESTATE AND PERCEIVED HEALTH PROBLEMS.

If I could live anywhere around the Leicester area, I would probably say Western Park, having lived there in a rented place. There are some very nice properties up there, with plenty of garden space too, and it's not far from the city.

If you don't want a house by the countryside, forget Earl Shilton and Barwell, Oadby is close to the city centre, as is Western Park.

Sorry can't comment on Earl Shilton & Barwell.

Like Madjock we live in the West End - nice and andy for shops, M1, bars and the city centre. However, it really is a student area with lots of lets.

Stoneygate, Claredon Park, Knighton area the most popular areas (and are thus overpriced for what you get). However, this is where the good schools etc are.

My advice avoid Braunstone, New Parks, Beaumont Leys + some others.

I would try to stay clear of a lot of the estates (Saffron Lane, St Matthews).

The Leicester Mercury is good but right move probably has more properties.

Like every other city, there are endless areas to avoid if you want to avoid souped up XR3i's and staffordshire bull terriers.

I would advise taking a drive around Leicester and then ask what it is you are looking for other than a house, i.e shops, schools, parks etc.

Looking again at your original post 4 beds + 2 bathrooms for £250K should be possible in Westernpark, but may be a struggle in Oadby, Stoneygate and Knighton.

Try seraching rightmove with the postcodes le2 or le3

  • I live in Aylestone Le2 postcode hello to all my Leicester friends!
I really dont think that there is that many 4 beds round here to be honest.
Saffron Lane has some but this is a mainly council area so no good to you.
Aylestone has one of the best primary scholls Montrose in my opinion.
Houses here sell within 2 days the one we live in now was maketed on a Friday and we brought it on the Monday.
Oadly again the Le2 postcode does have 4 beds we looked around a couple when a friends were looking.
Register with lots of estate agents so your the 1st people they call when a suitable house is marketed. Also keep checking the local area yourself lots of houses round ehre are sold not via an estate agent.
2007 is my getting slim year
Total weight loss so far is 16llbs:T
    Total to go 15 pounds:eek:
Not no more as im having a baby:D
