The amount of information a person (who is a confirmed victim of fraud) would be prepared to share in a forum full of strangers is reflected in my original post.

The amount of advice you have received is commensurate with the amount of information you have provided.

    I don't see the problem.

A couple of people have passed judgement, but mainly because you are not helping yourself and giving half arsed information because you don't think we need to know anymore.

A fair few posters have already stated that, because they cannot mind-read, they require more information before they can possibly help you. If you do not want to give this information about that is fine, but do not get stroppy, insulting users and saying that they are the ones causing trouble.

The posters on here are not asking for your bank information, they are asking about the complaint you made and why is was rejected, or whether you had actually sent it at all.

If you wish for some advice from members of this forum, then you should answer the questions posed by a lot of the other members. Otherwise log off and don't come back.

  • normally im just a reader on here but ill throw my twopence in.

Im a Halifax staff member so ill make that clear from the start.

    1) Halifax branch staff must be off the premises by a certain time each evening. Any extension of this has to be cleared by the regional manager in advance with exceptional reason. A call that could be made from home would not be granted as this.

    2) If a police crime reference number was provided the money would have been refunded within 24 hours. no if's no buts until the investigation was completed, after the investigation they money can be re-taken if found to be non fraudulent. Every last call to fraud is recorded and any mistakes can instantly be rectified by a manager in customer relations.

    3) if wonga have taken the money they would have matched the name, address, card number and security numbers on back at the time of application online via halifax secure. If these had been incorrect they wouldnt have given said person funds to the bank account they later debit. I could be wrong but my understanding is wonga insist on debiting the money from the account they credit? but im no expert on wongas practices. The question i would be asking if it was me is who had access to my debit card.

The ombudsman has very rarely ruled against the banks in cases of fraud in last year or so, its one area banks have really tightened up on how they act.

JuicyJesus you have actually made we giggle like a school girl!!
Whitewater I have to disagree on some level I'm afraid. Being both a customer of Halifax and an ex-customer of Wonga (thank christ I got out of that!!) I know, personally, that the information you have written is not strictly true.
I was unfortunate enough to get myself locked in an out of control spiral using Wonga, on a monthly basis, and not once NEVER did I have to put in my Halifax secure password.
One month I even changed my debit card, forgetting to update my new card details, and they were still able to take money from my account.
Can I ask, did you see the ITV tonight programme about 6/7 weeks ago about Wonga fraud? Unfortunately it is rife and reported cases of this kind of fraud have gone up from (off the top of my head) 5 reported cases a month last year to 25 reported cases a month so far this year and it's still on the increase.
Just because you work for the corporation doesn't mean you know it all.
Oh and no, not all fraud is dealt with instantly. I am nearly 9 weeks into a dispute with Halifax over a fraudulant payment and it still looks no closer to being sorted. Just waiting for the FOS to finish whatever it is they are doing and am quietly confident that Halifax will be ruled against. (but that is by-the-by)

It's over a year since Halifax Secure has required me to give a password at payment for anything.

It's well over three years since Halifax asked me for any passwords at all. But then that might be because I closed my accounts with them back in early 2010.

Say what you like about how irrelevant this post is - it's still got more sense in it than the OP's posts.

    .

As someone who deals with fraud on a daily basis... I can confirm the bold as wrong.

Wonga will take ANY card details as payment of a loan... Even when the name does not match.
Given the time of the OP's post. Card fraud to Wonga was rife.

So I think this is a simple case of card details being used by 3rd party.

All in all a case such as this would have been resolved in one call to the fraud team. And only if Wonga provided solid proof that it was the OP. (not sure how as its all online) Again if when this was provided and the OP still said not me Halifax would still get the money back from Wonga and Wonga would be left to chase the fraudster through the courts....

So to me why this is taking so long is beyond me.

Quite ironic is that Wonga advert has just been on and it states agreement ONLINE in 15 mins.... So no signatures there them :rotfl:
