Visit to the butchers today as meat stocks running a little low so bought 3lb steak mince, 3lb pork and beef sausage, 6 large beef olives and 2 packs of gravy dripping, which cost £34.89. However this will stretch far and the gravy dripping will do for stovies and stock for soups once it has been divided up. OH went to the co-op for bread and ended up spending £8 on nothing! Increase to the budget today is £43 and will have Asda shop tomorrow, so aiming for £45 for there too. Fingers crossed!

Small unplanned for spends today as when was out with daughter saw some packs of bacon offcuts for 60p so brought two - one smoked and one un-smoked. These are now split into 4 packs and in the freezer. Also brought some porridge and some dips. £2.95 in all.
Picked my first lot of blackberries this year, there wasn't loads ripe yet but they are starting to turn. These are now in the freezer awaiting some more. Our apple tree has a fair few on so will hopefully get some of those in the freezer soon as they ready. They are eating apples not cookers but it doesn't matter. An uncle usually gives us some for cooking so fingers crossed this year is no different.
Ham rolls & salad for tea as didn't fancy the pasta we were supposed to have had.

Is it me or are blackberries rather late this year, I am trying to remember they saying about when you shouldnt gather them .

€436.65/€750! 3 weeks done of 5 week month. Today is the start of week 4 and I'm off to do my big weekly shop after work.

Here's hoping that DH's nephew is not around next week. He's been up for the last few weeks whilst DH is t work helping with some farming jobs. So I'm feeding 6 instead of 5. He's a thin 17 year old but Lordy he never stops eating. Packets of biscuits are just disappearing. My kids are going mad cos he's eating them all in the day and nothing there for them! And the farming work productivity is not great either!

Sorry if this seems mean but I would be inclined to hide a few packs of biscuits ,tell nephew theres none left, not really fair I dont think to let him eat them all and the kids get none.

Just found this - have to say never heard this saying before!!!
    When to pick
Blackberries are normally at their best at the end of August to September. Legend has it any picked after the end of this month are best avoided as the devil is said to have peed on them. We're not sure this is true but by October the damp weather will have certainly soiled many crops. :o

Weekly shop done at mr t tonight. Total spent was £40.82. I am making carrot came for my mum tomorrow and had forgot that I only had a little bit f used oil left so had to send DH to the local n1sa for oil and a block of butter. He estimates this cost about £3.50.

I have decided to add the cost of all the beans i stocked up on earlier in the week so have £10.89 to add for that shop. That wasn't all on beans!:rotfl:

My total is now £265.44 with 5 days to go:)

We had the cheap family meals carbonara for tea and it was lovely with some HM garlic bread.

    Another NSD here. :D
Nearly out of HM Buttery Ginger biscuits - hungry hordes visited. Made a cake tonight - do topping + photo tomorrow.
For dinner tonight we had Sea Bass with HM wedges and HM coleslaw - given to me by my Daughter. I was going to make coleslaw to have with dinner but got a text - she had made too much - would I like some. The coleslaw recipe was from Olive magazine - fennel, red cabbage, red pepper, Tabasco sauce, dill, lemon zest - all the ingredients I can remember. It was delicious. Still some left. Sea Bass was reduced in Sainsbobs but still a more expensive meal than usual - nice to have a treat sometimes.

Well, holiday is over, had a lovely time and we didn't go mad spending so I'd say we came in under budget (if we'd worked one out to start with :o). However, the car decided to do weird stuff like not accelerating well and may need expensive repairs or possibly even replacement shortly. Boo :(. Have spent £56.82 in total on groceries during August so far (not including holiday food spends or birthday party stuff. Actually I've no idea what I spent on those exactly but I don't think it was excessive and that'll do!)

Halfway through the month and I've only had 2 NSDs, must try harder to reach my target of 10! Had crappy news this morning, my application for Open Uni funding was rejected over something silly :( so I'm gonna make a big chocolate cake to cheer myself up and set about reapplying for February!
