Aw thanks minicooper and bluegreen, one of the best things about our pared down approach to grocery spending is that my daughters have reacted so well to fresh cooked food, giving me loads of encouragement. I've loved that x

Hi All, £1 spent today on 2 packs of 500g lean mince that hubs got from work so had HM Spag Bol for lunch filled out with mushrooms, peppers, and onions. Have enough for more dinners, the other will go in the freezer. Had a few strawberries and raspberries on the turn so made a crumble for pud with HM custard...lovely.:D
Got to report also, me and my friend made some bread rolls yesterday. We got the bread recipe from Rachel Allans Bake book. As I have a dodgy shoulder matey kneaded for me. They were absolutely delish. Hubs took some for pack up and so we will be having some as bacon rolls for tea.....Mmmmmmmm. I have tried baking my own bread a few times and it has been ok but a bit stodgy but these turned out beautifully. I'm not sure of the price comparison, probably more expensive but by jiminy they were better than any shop bought, excluding bakery. And the wonderful smell!!! I am going to try loaves next week with the same recipe and see how they turn out. How do all you bread bakers keep your HM bread fresh. A bit cooler here today and looking forward to a good nights sleep...please!

For tea we were going to have Hairy bikers meat balls & tomato sauce but too hot so ended up with a gammon joint and salad. Very nice it was too.

Florenceem - I also married young 17 and a week, we lasted 12 years but then split. I could not cook when I got married but you had to learn didn't you and make do. I remember his wages been £15 and we struggled but had to get on with it. How times change. The first time I made dumplings I didn't know they swelled up so made them fairly large, what a mess when they all lumped together in the pan :o Made one or two bad mistakes along the way but all part of learning.

I also married at 17, divorced after 30 years, but remain friends, in fact went out with him for a drink this week, like him better as a friend than a hubby.

I really giggled about the dumplings but at least yours rose, my first attempt was like rabbit droppings as I forgot the baking powder. I also left the giblets in the plastic bag in a roast chicken and didnt find out until we had eaten it, spent a couple of days wondering if we would get ill. As you say all part of learning.

£71.79 spent at Mr A online including DD's birthday cake and some treats.Hoping for a little shop some time next week, and then on 5th of August our brand spanking new Mr M opens ... is it sad to be excited :T

Off to update sig, hoping i have just enough to do a small shop before the end of the month. Not holding out much hope though, i think i'll be over by a few squid. Really need to do better next month, hopefully a supermarket on the doorstep will help, especially as i can just use it for basic everyday items, and go for the best offers elsewhere. Also won't need a minimum spend for delivery as i do online.
