Hi, following my other thread, I was hoping to join in here and set myself a budget of £250 for the rest of July (have been spending £100 a week!), which I'm hoping isn't too ambitious, but next month I will hopefully have a better idea and more practice!

Tea tonight was battered fish with mushrooms, pak choi, tomatoes & spring onions. Mushrooms & spring onions were in need of using up and the pak choi was given to us at the weekend.

Can I join please? I have been a long time lurker at MSE, circa 4 years, since the SHTF big time.
Throughout these years times have been very tough, trying, exhausting and a bit scary at times, but finally, over the last 6 months I am seeing a future for my family and I.
To cut a long story short, I got into a large amount of debt when the credit crunch hit.
Just over 2 years ago I gave birth to 1st son, Dylan, now 2, after finding out I was pregnant just 2 weeks before I had him (concealed pregnancy, was on pill).
10 weeks ago gave birth to 2nd son, concealed until 18 weeks as well, whilst on the pill again. Wouldn't change them for the world and being a mummy is great. And in all honesty, has helped me and my partner get our act together.
I finally feel in control of my money, rather than it/debts controlling us.
Now we feel ready to save money where we can in order to provide a more stable future. I have stuck to my own budgets a lot over the last couple of years, but I feel the last couple of months spending has upped quite a bit (we had baby, moved into our own home which has been a long time coming etc.)
So, currently think spending is approx £100 a week (400 month) on groceries, cleaning, self cleaning and baby nappies and milk, for 2 adults, 2 yr old and 10 week old.
Want to cut it dramatically, so can I start with £250 for the month, running from yesterday, 3rd July, until 2nd August.
Spends yesterday of £3.50 (Kitchen foil, bag of sweets and 4 ltr diet coke - mostly not essential, but was in need of a perk me up before embarking on my challenge).
Look forward to joining in with the thread. Mission for today - stock take - fingers crossed don't need to buy much until next Tuesday/Weds.

    Starting again...

The deli in tesco has just finished finished the seroiusly strongcheese it was 50per 100 g .someone. Mentioned morrison i looked on the site(offers/fresh/cheesey) 200g of grated mature cheese for a pound
    http://m.morrisons.co.uk/Offers

I think that was me who mentioned that - I have a 2.16K lump in the garage as it has an end date of December in its' vacuum packed state. I just need to have freezer space to put bags of grated cheese in before I open it and process it with the added advantage of such strong cheese is that we use less of course (yeah, right... :o)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Well NSD planned for me. Managed to keep some chicken back from last nights dinner (all the veg went) so i'm gonna do chicken and chips for mine and DH's lunch. Tea is cheap and cheerful beans on toast with grated cheese. Doesn't sound much, but i don't make it often and my kids love it!

Got plenty of milk and bread for today. Will need more tomorrow though along with cereal and veg. Tomorrow will possibly turn into a top-up shop of basics, but i'm gonna write a list and try and stick to it. My top up shops can easy turn into a £60-£80 spend!! Yikes!! *must be good, must be good, must be good* lol. I'm guessing it will be easier to do my top up shop tomorrow, rather than Saturday when i have the kids with me like i usually do.

    Right, enough rambling. Sorry! :D

    Hello all!

Had a few spends since the start of the month - still have to do a main shop, and am shopping for meals on a day by day basis at the moment

59p in the corner shop yesterday
£6.49 in coOp on the 1st Jul
£1.05 in Mr S on the 3rd Jul
£1.05 in Mr S on the 3rd Jul
£5.39 in Mr W on the 2nd Jul

    £14.57 to add to total

Meals this week have been/will be so far:

Monday (I cooked) - Tagliatelle with roasted peppers and onions, tuna, capers and chopped tomatoes
Tuesday (I cooked) - Fusilli pasta with sun dried tomatoes, jalapenos and basil
Wednesday (Housemate cooked) - Trout (cheaper and just as tasty as salmon I've come to realize), with a roasted butternut squash and onion salad topped with tahini, pine nuts, parsley and z'atar
Thursday (Housemate will cook) - Cod in a tomato/fennel/basil sauce served with spaghetti

Lot of pasta this week so it seems. Nearly used up the jar of jalapeno's - will use it for one more meal with the sundried tomatoes. After that I'll try and use up the sauerkraut and a few more chutneys.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

I've spent £47.29 today in Aldi and Sainsburys (had to pop there to pick up Rooibos tea for DH). I know that still seems a lot to some on here, but I have been spending £100 a week, so I'm feeling quite proud of myself for starting and I can see that I easily have enough for the week and beyond. It also included a bit of a top up on toiletries and cleaning stuff to get me started, so I won't need any of that for the rest of the month.
