If I'm on bike and I come up to middle lane hogger I'll undertake them, if I'm in car I'll move out to L3 to pass, then cut right across them to L1, as close as I dare risk. I know most will disagree with that, but it keeps me happy.
Will it still keep you happy when your family is mourning at your funeral?0 -

As I stated, I've been doing this for over 30 years, not needed a funeral yet, I'm well aware of my surroundings, it's the other driver that isn't and would be taken by surprise.0 -

It's great that "it will never happen to me attitude". That probably what most people killed in RTCs thought.0 -

In theory it could be a bit longer. The police have six months to serve papers to the court, not sure what the time limit is for the court to then issue the summons. Once this new system goes live it'll probably be similar to the rules for speeding, i.e. 14 days for a NIP to the RK.
Feel free to poke me to update

Well for the record I've just undertook someone on the motorway in view of a copper.
They were in Lane 3 doing 50mph. I undertook them by remaining in Lane 1 doing 70. The copper was about half a mile back.
The Lane 3 numpty got pulled over for it.
That isn't undertaking, that's passing on the left which is legal as long as the traffic in the lane to the right of you is travelling at a lower speed. It only becomes undertaking when you pass someone on the left, then pull into their lane in front of them. All your base are belong to us.0 -
Some on this thread still claiming it's illegal.
It is a word that needs to be used carefully though. To my mind the "under" is the opposite of "over" so if "overtake" = passing on the right then "undertake" = passing on the left. Others use it to refer to a more specific and dangerous manoeuvre, presumably because the word sounds similar to another name for a funeral director.
In the case of the undertake as you describe it. The dangerous and illegal part is the pulling in front of people at short distance.0 -

Well with any luck you won't receive anything. But I wouldn't keep pushing your luck in future (especially once the new system comes in).0 -

Rubbish. It is undertaking, just the same as if you were in lane 1, and someone passes you in lane 2, they are overtaking you.0 -

And that would just be a dangerous lane change. Which isn't an offence either, but could also be classed as dangerous driving.0 -
You can say many things about Strider's posts, people on this forum regularly do. But I assure you he is not a wind-up merchant.
That said, why would he get a speeding ticket for doing 70 in a 70 limit just because some other people are braking to 50 unnecessarily. He might get one for changing lanes to pass on the left, however.
Ahhhh, but you seeeeee, I changed lanes a distance before the camera and my speed did not change
the fact I'd predicted what would happen doesn't really come into it
