Assuming the OP is happy with the £130 for all the hassle then the only other thing is an explanation of how the OP's number got associated with the neighbour.

Either the neighbour gave it in which case Santander have done nothing wrong or Santander got it from the OP's old Abbey Nat account which has system & DPA implications

    That's fair enough.

Maybe the OP can tell us what aspect of this she wants to 'take further'.

I have got as far as I can with this. If Santander got my phone number from an old Data Base I have no chance of proving this!!! Just as I have no chance of proving that I did not give my landline number to my neighbour.

I will never get an explanation of how Santander got my phone number. It's not going to happen.

Have you actually TOLD your neighbour Santander are calling and asking for her on your number?

I have left a note stating that I was being called by Santader asking to speak to her but whether my neighbour understands I really don't know. English is not their first language.

I have no relationship with them other than sharing a front door and entrance hall. They are not my mates!!!

Ah! at which point it all becomes clear. Santander have your neighbours address and probably no phone number. They have trawled their records and found you at the same address and bingo your phone number.

I would say they have breached Data Protection on 2 grounds.
    • Using your phone No unfairly to harass you
    • Letting you know that your neighbour has debt issues.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

They've apologised and paid you compensation, why do you need to prove anything now ?

i have had nothing to do with Abbey National since 2005 (7 - 8 years ago) and that is before Santander bought them. I am sure that my personal details should have been deleted by Santander or Abbey National years ago.

Anybody know how long Institutions can keep personal details of previous customers??

I don't but I can't take this any further anyway as I will be in the position of it being their word against mine and who has the power and resources not me!!!

The problem is that the same issue could happen to someone who is much frailer and older than I am and that really bothers me.
