Tired of the the supermarkets' little games with pricing!

Or indeed, venting about those who assume that because they (think they) know how things work that entitles them to ridicule and belittle those who (they think) don't.
No trust me they don't!
As with regards to the what drove shops out of business. It's the fact people speak as if the supermarkets fault, it's not, it's their own!0 -

That's certainly true.
But I don't see that makes it inaccurate to say that supermarkets drove smaller retailers out of business.
All you are saying is that a more efficient entity displaced a less efficient entity - which is something that happens all the time.
But you are quite correct in that people say they want top quality and service and yet flock to the very people who give them less of both simply because they are cheaper. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I buy small bags of carrot sticks to have with a dip for a healthy lunch . Near work there are two small Tesco stores . Now they will only sell these bags in pairs instead of singles . I refuse to buy them as most will get wasted as they have a short life.I need to think of something new here...0

When it comes to items such as carrots, potatoes etc I buy sainsburys basics, 2KG of carrots for £1. They last a good while and taste the same as their normal packs. Difference is they are funny shapes or some are broken.
Amazes me how people will avoid an item if it looks a bit funny or the packaging is dented. With potatoes, i usually do mash or boiled, i buy basics and they taste exactly the same at a cheaper price. Yet they are basic because they are funny shapes.
Never buy premium cereal either, cereal is one of the biggest rip offs in a supermarket. I always buy own brand, taste almost the same as kellogs etc and is about two thirds of half the price.11K Challenge

.
I would disagree with potatoes. Depends on the type in the value pack.
Certain variety will give different results. if you buy a specific type you will get more consistancy when cooking.0 -

^^^^^Totally agree with the whole of your post as I'm just the same.
Makes no difference to me as it all tastes the same & all goes down the same way.
Once cooked, who can taste the difference, cos i certainly can't.
Alot of the supermarkets own cheaper branded products actually taste better than premium brands.0 -
In some places in the US (I'm an ex-pat) this type of pricing isn't allowed.
Some states have pricing laws which state that if, say, the deal is 2 for $2, then you must be able to buy 1 for $1.
It was put in place to try to curb food waste from what I understand. I'd honestly like to see some MPs campaigning on this. It would be interesting to see what would happen.0 -
I would buy 1 for $10

then 2 for 2$ is not a deal if you can buy 1 for $1.
So people who buy more loose out.
Especially on products like canned ingredients where your not going to run out0
