Thank you. I might just hide in bed until Monday when I can call for an emergency appointment,

Just scared they will refuse to give me an emergency appointment. Thank you for your kind words.

Totally normal to feel panicked. I'm 29 and went to the docs a couple of weeks ago with a lump near my nipple. Turned out to be a blocked milk duct! I foolishly though you only got those if you were breast feeding or had recently had a child but turns out I was wrong! Best of luck remember a positive mental attitude can carry you a long way. x

They found a lump in my breast during my first routine mammogram. I had to wait a few days for an appointment at the breast clinic so yes, I know exactly what you mean by panicked. All was well though, they had a very detailed look at it and it turned out to be what's called a breast mouse of all things, a small mobile lump of fibrous tissue that's benign. They're very common, especially in younger women and they don't need any treatment. There are plenty of reasons for lumps and most of them are benign, like mine. Scary though.

If your GP does think you need a referral don't think there's anything specifically sinister about the speed you get an appointment as this is standard. Lumps do need checked out though and for the minority of lumps that do need treatment it is important to start quickly, hence they take everyone through at speed.

Chances are you'll be fine though, you're young and have no family history or other symptoms. Tell the receptionist what the problem is and stress you need the emergency appointment, they'll be used to giving this sort of thing priority.

    Good luck.
    Val.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Stay off the Internet!!!! You can take your partner, apart from if you have a mammogram as that's X-rays and they have to stay out of the room.

Stay calm, and don't poke it too much as you'll get sore & more panicky. You're young, with no family history so its probably just a mouse. My mum has had them for years with no problems.

And if it is bad news, well I was diagnosed with 3 tumours in October & am finishing treatment and I'm feeling really ok now.

I'm reading about the GP and getting appointments and about breast screening and what it could be :(

Would they really stop him from staying with me?

Step away from Google, the internet will tell you you're dying of cancer if you sneeze!

Your partner will be able to stay with you, please don't worry, but if you need X rays then nobody else can be in the room while they're taken because of the radiation. That's a very very short time though, and he can be right outside.

My last mammogram was taken on a mobile van outside outside the hospital so not much of a waiting room for partners and of course only you and the nurse in the x-ray room.
They were all lovely and it didn't take long.
Best wishes and keep yer chin up.

Gemma, we could all diagnose ourselves with every illness out there. Dr Google does more harm than good.

You are 23 with no family history so have no reason to suspect anything sinister. You're doing the right thing by going to the GP so let them take it from there. You will be in good hands!

As P1 said, nobody can have relatives with them during Xrays but they only take a very short time.

    Please stop panicking!
