Modern autopilot can fly the plane itself, it's just for takeoff and landing they need a pilot.
Look on the postive side, yes someone messed up and the engine caught on fire, but at least it was over land and near to an airport. Can you imagine if the engine caught fire when they were over the Sea?0 -
^^..
Pilot Flying & Pilot Monitoring...though really they could set the autopilot and auto-throttle before the take off roll, set altitude & track mode.
They have just got to climb out, clean things up and engage it..then it becomes PM & PF (radio & autopilot operator). :P0 -

annual strikes wern't they.
Nope, it was all o0ne dispute that affected Heathrow, Gatwick staff worked normally, before that it was quite a few years since the last one!0 -
Even though all of the planned strikes didn't go ahead due to being declared illegal by the courts, the plans still caused a lot of worry for people who had already booked or were planning to book up.
Strikes were announced for the following dates
February 2008
December 2009 (Striking over Christmas)
January 2010
March 20th to 22nd and March 27th to 30th 2010
May 2010
March 20110
