So what, you think only BA pilots would have been able to bring the plane in?

No. Not at all. That would be rediculous.

If that's not what you were eluding to then what?

Just that if I had to be on an aircraft where things started to go wrong; there's worse places to be than a BA one.

What I don't understand is that my 6 year old Ford Focus tells me if the boot isn't closed properly. You'd think a multimillion pound aircraft would have an alarm for these hatches.

They do have warning lights for the doors, but on a modern airliner, there are loads of access panels that need to be secured.
Each one would need a switch, wiring to and connectors, an indication system in the cockpit etc.
For the whole aircraft, this lot would add up to a fair bit of weight, and weight is one thing that all aircraft need to keep to a minimum.

I agree, but the manufacturers probably assume the maintenance workers are capable of closing a door properly.

So you think that using an airline that is struggling financially is safer than one that is making big profits?

Nope. Pretty sure that's not what I said either.

If there's an emergency what can you do? leave it to the pilots, sit back and tuck into the halal chicken.

Easily missed as the A320 engines are quite close to the floor. The engines might have been worked on inside the hangar, then the aircraft moved outside. Someone would have closed the cowlings as for towing outside.

Person A would have release the stay, and lowered them into place with a plan to lock them open again when outside/back inside...but forgot to tell anyone..

Person B (the engineer) would have seen them lowered, so assumed they were closed.

Co-Pilot would of carried out walkround, but the engines are low to the floor so requires you to get right down.

    Then crunch..

    I have seen missed panels...

I walked up to a A330 ready to start engines (Passengers on board + Door Closed + Steps away) with its anti-col lights flashing away.

Plugged in to inform them i would take 2-3 mins to complete a quick walk around check, to be told by crew that they were in a rush to make CTOT. Upon walking from the RH engine towards the Main Gear, i find the fuel control panel locked open, and aircraft set to refuel.

A quick set to off, and closed the panel and carry on the walkround, told the crew who started to blame each other on headset.

    The joys..

Lets face it it wont be the first or last time either. However serious these things do happen. Give air crash investigation a watch, youll never fly again ;) Unless your like mine and obsessed with planes.

You mean like on an Air India flight were the pilots were 'resting' in J class. No prob the flight attendants we're there.
