What do you mean by "going onto economy 7"? Is this a property that you will be moving to?
Not all E7 installations are wired the same. It will be either the whole house or just the heating/hot water that benefit from E7. Posting a picture of your meter/fuse panel may clear this up quickly.0 -

No, that's not quite right.
With E7, all the electricity you use during the low rate period will be charged at low rate.
Where houses differ in wiring is that some may have certain circuits (e.g. to NSHs, or a main immersion heater, etc) that only become live during the low rate period. But not all houses on E7 have these low rate only circuits.0 -

As I mentioned above, if it really is E7, then all the electricity consumed during the low rate will be charged at that low rate
(It cannot be charged any other way as you only have 1 meter which all the electricity runs through - all it does is changes the registry according to the time)0 -
I am having 2 storage heaters installed as i can not afford the wet water system that is in here at present, I am going to change to edf economy 10 and just need to know that if i use my tumble dryer say when the cheap rate is running, will that be charged at the cheap rate or not, as i was told you dont ever have to rates running at the same time ??0

This is what im unsure of how can you have a high rate meter and a low rate meter charging you different prices per kwh running at the same time ??0

This thread is about Economy 7
You even title your post Economy 7
... but you seem to be talking about Economy 10.

It may be similar or it may be completely different depending on your region and type of metering installed. https://www.edfenergy.com/sites/default/files/time_of_use_heating_tariffs.pdf0

Sadly i am none the wiser as some answers say all electricity charged at lower rate. yet others say only heating and water runs at lower rate, so again if this is the case 2 tariffs run at the same time, how does that work do i have to have 2 electric boxes, 1 with heating and water the other with plugs lights etc0

Normal E7 can have all circuits run through one consumer unit with timers to operate the heating and water at low rate times or 2 circuits with the heating and water circuit only active at low rate times, all electricity supplied to the property is charged at the appropriate rate for time of day. E10 has 2 circuits and often 3 different rates. Heating and water is charged at one rate during 3 different periods. The rest of the house is usually on standard E7 timings. There is often 2 daily charges for E10. So yes you can be using "heat" tariff and "day / night" tariff at the same time.0
