If all your internal walls are solid load-bearing masonry rather than partitions, then you cannot expect the signal to travel as far as in a standard modern partition construction.
You could buy a better router, but ultimately a set of Homeplugs is the quick and effective solution.

    Hi Macman

I realise this but the signal drops by about half even when your only 2.5m away with no walls etc between.

There's a few (long) threads on the Plusnet forums about the Wifi performance of the TG582n, some people seems fine, some people seem to have big problems.
Personally, I find it very good, better than my previous router (A trusty old Netgear DG834G), guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Many people on the forums opt to replace it with an Asus RT-N56U or RT-N66U for much better performance, but you are comparing a £70 router with one you basically got for free.

    Here's a few threads to peruse ....

But your issue is really where the signal is non-existent or so weak as to render usage impossible.
Five bars is nice in theory, but if the device works with three, then why worry?

"How/have you resolved the problem? Have plus net done anything?"

Yes, by mostly using a wired connection!:p No, all they suggested was to try different wifi channels - no different.
I also have another "characteristic", as others do too, whereby the green "internet" light changes from green to red intermittently but the connection is still fine. The "cure" for this is a soft disconnect and connect within the router. PN have no answer to this either.
However, in spite of the above I'm still more than happy with them.:)

Of course but that kind of signal strength is pretty poor considering the short distance and no obstruction, its no wonder the other side of a wall its near impossible to connect.

no further along, tried 3rd plusnet router, no joy, tried router from local computer shop no difference.

We are trying to get a signal to the second bedroom / study to connect laptop/pc and xbox 360 oh and a bonus the smart tv.

    changed every setting possible.

next move we are buying some 20m cable to move the box down the hall way. something i didnt really want to do as we are in rented and I didn't really want to have to make good all the holes made by fixing the cable and box to the wall.

Why not use powerline adaptors rather than drill holes?
Then put another Wifi router configured as slave only in the far room.

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear that you've experienced poor wireless issues. I can see that you've covered a lot of ground trying to resolve this.

It sounds like there could actually be an issue with the router.

Could you provide a ticket number to identify your account? It may be worth us getting you a replacement one out.

    Regards,

    Chris

Another priceless post from an illiterate "ISP support" script monkey!

Your response has no doubt put many potential customers right off Plusnet.
