I can't help noticing that some of the people who are more "relaxed" ( shall we say) about the condition & treatment of their home are pretty vocal & judgemental......
I haven't noticed the "house proud" side throwing barbs & snips about how minging some of you are ;-)

No smoking, flush the toilet (and try not to pee on the floor). I live in Asia so shoes off outside the front door, never ever ever in the house (even when we have delivery men carrying super heavy stuff they always slip their shoes off, not because I ask them to, but because they wouldn't dream of being so rude in our home, it's cultural but I like it)

In the UK there are considerations of employee safety for heavy deliveries - the men/women wear shoes with steel toes and should not take them off. Reputable companies provide their staff with paper overshoes to put on in people's houses.

"Cultural" can mean different international cultures, or just a more pc way of referring to Chavs.

No smoking allowed in our house and shoes off at the door for family and visitors.

The whole point if the thread is whether we ask visitors to remove their shoes.

We wear slippers in the house. However, an evening of a couple of guests wearing their shoes is not something I'd worry about. And definitely not embarrass them by asking them to take their shoes off.

Btw: the living room carpet is a light pinkish brown Wilton, cleans very well.

I'm another one that doesn't get the whole shoes things

I think houses are for living in and would never have cream carpet - especially not downstairs or on the stairs themselves - I nearly always wear my shoes in the house, slippers in teh evening after everything has been done and i'm curled up with the TV

    Actually it's not.

This thread was started to ask if we expected visitors to follow house rules or were they exempt.

Because we're not minging (well some of us might be ;)) we just buy practical stuff that is easy to clean.

The Ribena coloured carpet is a case in point. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it hasn't been cleaned up so no stickiness
