Yes that's why the police got shot because braking from high speed the brakes were next to useless suffered very bad brake fade from overheating0

If it's occasional use you could consider an older Eurovan (Synergie/806/Ulysse):-

Slightly smaller than the voyager but bigger than the Sharan etc.
The pre-2000 diesel ones where fitted with the old 1.9TD & if you don't get at least 200k out of one of those you're not really trying.
Most have a bosch fuel pump so will run on veg oil as well0 -
Kia Sedona? She says hopefully..... we've just bought a 2003 model, 2.9 diesel. Stacks of room for 4 adults, 76, 000 miles under 2kPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Ahh 2 other ideas. Thanks I shall look into them.
Im guessing buying an ex cop car is good because it would have been looked after rather well with regards to servicing and such like yes?Dont rock the boat
Dont rock the boat ,baby0 -
Yes but you don't know it was an ex cop car from the site, just because the site is called that doesn't mean that they are.0

£300 for power steering pump that will fail when you dont want it to in deisel format, sliding doors jam up so make sure they are greased up upon yearly service and trim etc are not very durable, but for the money space comfort and long distance haulin it can reward you fuel wise, watch the tax bracket on these aswell.
the sedona has 2.5 v6 24v KV6 rover engine wich can be a costly timing belt and water pump job (no they dont suffer HG failure).0 -
Is an S-Max in budget yet? I had 2 of those (274k and 106k). Both were bought new, but the 2nd one, I only had a year, and didn't suffer any back problems at all.
Otherwise, a Peugeot 406 estate may be a good option. I had one, and it's currently still pottering around with 600k+ on it (used as an airport taxi from 3 years old, and I think Ken's still working it!)
I'm wary of anything ex-police, especially with how our local force drive their 1.3 Astras.

Hi all,
Apologies for hijacking your thread 'Exile-Geordie'
I am also looking for another 7 seater MPV. We've just sold our 2002 Grand Espace which I think we replaced everything on...but possibly that was due to the age of it.?
We really dont want to spend over 4500, so am guessing anyting from a 2004 to a 2007 will be our limit.
I have narrowed it down to another newer shape Grand espace or the Grand Voyager.
I am being very drawn to a 2005 Grand Voyager Limited XS with 80K on the clock, which I've seen at an independent dealer. It does seem to have all the bells and whistles along with leather interior. The side sliding doors are also a big bonus :T
But I really dont want to get tunnel vision and lose sight of the Renault.
We are a family of six so definitely need a LOT of space when travelling...:rotfl:
Can anyone offer any guidance as how to make my mind up.?0 -

Yes, well, lets not go there, local garage refused to touch it for timing belt change, supplier wanted a contribution if £1000 towards fixing it, which took 6 weeks. It lasted precisely 6 days before the replaced timing belt snapped and the garage refused to refund.
It is now being delt with in County court...Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
Another vote for the Galaxy.
But watch for ex minicabs.
A leftfield choice could be a Kia Sedona plenty about in y9ur budget.
Or possibly a Honda Shuttle/Odyssey(jap import version) as a half decent one can be had for around £1000. The petrol engine might use more fuel but is easier to look after, though the 2.2 does have a balance belt aswell as a cambelt. I have only seen them in auto but they do have a lot of room.
I imported 3 Odysseys from Japan back in 07 and they were all trouble free and reliable.
Sold one to a work colleague in 08 and he still drives it daily. Most significantly he takes his camping all the time with his wife and two daughters.
Another advantage is the Shuttle/Odyssey is less likely to be an abused ex minicab due to being petrol.
They may have made a diesel but i have never seen one.0
