Anyone got a sewing room?

thriftlady... i also dont have a sewing room but i did get myself a brand new shed to store all my stash in. think its 8x10foot. Paid out to have a real sturdy one. I dont keep my books in there as they are too precious and i wouldnt want them to go damp. I do keep all my fabrics in plastic lidded crates. I also store all my art stuff, beads, wool threads in there. ive had the shed for 5 years now and nothing has got damp but i wouldnt keep my machine in there as they should always be at room temperature before use.
embroidery and anything needlework is my passion and i just had to find a storage solution for all my stuff so saved up hard to get the shed.
You could also spruce up an old shed and use that if that is an option#440 sealed pot challenge0 -

You would probably get best value by going to a reputable dealer and trying the second hand machines. There are loads of people trading in machines only two or three years old as they upgrade to the latest all bells and whistles models. Older machines are sturdier in the main. I know people on these boards have bought machines at Lidl and Aldi and seem to be pleased with them, but I know a lady who works in a proper dealer's shop, and she says that they get a constant stream of women going there with these machines that have developed faults, and they wonder why the dealer won't repair them for them free! (Not suggesting for a minute that you would do that, in fact I'm sure you wouldn't.)
When I say try, by the way, that is exactly what I mean, take scraps of the type of stuff you are likely to sew and sit at the machine and sew on it. Different makes of machine have their controls in different places, and whilst you can get used to them, one may well suit you better than another.0 -
I would LOVE a sewing room. Sadly, I think I'll have to wait until one of the kids leaves home. There are some amazing pics in Rikki's link. I shall just have to daydream!0

Just went green with envy (not my best colour) at the thought of having my own space! All the years I sewed for craft fairs I was literally a 'kitchen table' industry which meant I had to keep tidy and was always having to put things away.
Every time one of the kids moves out another comes back! Shall have to save up and do what we meant to do 18 years ago - have the through room reinstated as 2 proper rooms. Then put a huge padlock on the door!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

I have a sewing room, it is kitted out well with desk, chair, rocking chair. Only problem is I don't know how to sew! I usually sit in the rocking chair staring at the machine and then leave the room.0

Yes, I have a sewing room too. It is multi-purpose: I work from home, so it is also my office. Apart from my desk for breadwinning, it has a table with my sewing machine and overlocker (one of those tables with flap-down leaves so you can extend or minimise it), and the room also holds the knitting machine (inherited from MIL) and a bed in case we have an overflow of guests. Plus a comfy Ikea chair usually inhabited by the cat. The room needs sorting out desperately - decorating, decluttering, organizing. I will get there! Also the breadwinning keeps getting in the way of dressmaking and (machine)-knitting, which exasperates me even more.
