Name-change charges

I don't have a problem with Easyjet's price, which is not unreasonable. I have a problem with the ridiculous statement earlier that "If Easyjet want to charge £3,500 to change the name on the ticket then they have every right to do so." That's what I was having a laugh at.Okay, the beer analogy: First, you're comparing a case where you don't see the price (buying the beer) with a case where the price is made very clear (the OP has obviously checked). Second, being asked to pay £3500 for a beer is ridiculously out of line with the average asking price for that product. In easyJet's case they're actually at the lower end of the average asking price.
Yes. But not £3500. That's the point. The restaurant analogy: You're comparing comparing a charge that is forced on a customer (the service charge) with a charge that the customer can choose not to pay if he should wish (the name change fee). And again, no restaurant that I know of has a 10.000% service charge whereas most airlines charge more than £35 for a name change. And these are just the most salient differences.0 -
Does it not come under Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999?
£35 to change a name does take the p!
No it doesn't come under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations because it's not an unfair term. You may not like it, but that doesn't make it unfair.I don't have a problem with Easyjet's price, which is not unreasonable. Obviously the example was meant to be ridiculous - no airline is ever going to implement such high fees - my point was basically that they can make it as high as they want. Just like many airlines make some of their tickets 100% non-refundable.0 -

In what way is it unfair? They're offering a product, if you don't want to purchase it nobody's forcing you. It's no different than pretty much any other product people purchase every single day.0 -

Fair enough, I thought you were trying to make a point about easyJet. My bad.0 -
If Tesco charge me £1.20 for a loaf of bread and their cost price is £0.40, is that a 'rip off' too?
By your logic, every company should only charge cost price for everything, never make a profit and then go out of business.0 -

£35 is a low charge for such a request. Many 'full service' airlines would not allow you to make such a change, unless on a (very expensive) fully flexible ticket.
In effect they are allowing you to cancel a passenger and resell it to somebody else. Given that the price could have increased considerably in the meantime, that seems very reasonable.
No, it is not as reasonable as that. Any increase in fare must be paid as well as the fee.0 -
I need to change a name on an easyjet return flight from Liverpool to Isle of Man, as my step grandson now can't come, so one of my other grandsons will come instead. Easyjet are charging £35 to change the name of the passenger (there are five others in the party, 6 in total) both boys are 13 years old. No tickets have been issued, other than by email
How can £35 be a justifiable charge?

Exactly.
