Humans are creatures that generally require companionship, how much varies, but we do not cope well alone after long periods

I think you need to ask why you dont like people round your house. You say you have shingles, is it possible that this is making you fearful of the attention of others? If not that, then try to find the basis of your rationale, maybe the people you currently associate with no longer meet your needs as companions?

I am fine socializing outside the house, I'm out most evenings doing things. I do find i don't like to spend more than a few hours with the same person though, whoever it is.
I had the shingles for a week before i even knew what it was so it's really not that bad. Just making me a bit tired and grouchy which is not unusual for me anyway!

It's nice to learn I'm not alone with not liking visitors in my space! I can't wait for them to leave so I can get the house back to how I like it...... I'm far from being a neat-freak (3 cats & 2 dogs see to that) but things out of place and disrupted routines make me uneasy.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

I'm not too keen on visitors either and it's been going on for a while. The potential problem with this state might be that when I decide that I would like somebody to visit me, there will be nobody around...

I'm uncomfortable with visitors too. Just as well we dont have many. I'd much prefer to socialize outside the house.

My house is my sanctuary and i'm not open to critisism as to how i i do things in my own home or how many hanging gardens are hanging from my ceiling (or my lack of ornaments).

  • It used to feel really awkward for me, so I didn't do it.

Once I actually made some real friends (and had seen most of their homes, including the Men Behaving Badly type :)), I realised it wasn't so bad after all.

If I get some warning, they know I'll get some stuff in for them, if not, or I'm skint, then they'll have to get food and drink from the shop/takeaway instead. And they'll bring something back for me, as well.

It's actually quite sparkly clean in here at the moment, because I was in the mood to clean up, knowing they were coming round - and I've already picked up yesterday's beer bottles and glasses this morning . But they've also seen it with cat tumbleweeds, the washing on the airer in the bathroom and a three foot high pile of washing up.

I wouldn't like people I don't get on with in here, though.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I don't care how odd it is katy721, I just hate visitors! It's my home not theirs & they shouldn't want to be sitting in my home all day, not when they have a home of their own to sit in. One of my husbands relz used to turn up at 10am & not leave until 10pm. Honestly some people take the p**s! So now if they turn up I always have an appointment after a few hours. Apart from the sheer horror of them turning up, they mess up your home, they want cups of tea which I rarely drink, & food, which I don't want to cook. I'd rather visit (if I have to) them as I can leave after a few hours. The worst thing is wondering when they're going. I'm a hi & bye person, love a chat if I'm in the mood, but am soooo ant - social much of the time, & feel quite happy on it.

I used to admire my friend. Her house was never locked whilst she was in and the place was like a drop in centre. No matter who it was they were made welcome and her house quite frankly was a tip but she didnt seem to care but if she came to mine she took the pee out of my organization and lack of clutter. I just gritted my teeth.

I wish i could be more like her.

DH's entire family descended on us for a long weekend last year - 8 extra adults, 2 children and a huge dog. Surprisingly it wasn't 4 times as bad as when they come separately, but still a horrific weekend for me.

I have always worked in the hotel industry, so the house does always have all the drinks, biscuits etc, but they really do treat my home line a hotel. Never ever again.

Think i am going to have to start practising having people round before it gets worse.
It's good to know I'm not alone with this though!
I think maybe i try too hard to be perfect. I also like routine, frees up brain space for other things, and having people around disrupts my routines!
