i think the HSBC site is fine, along with Barclays, i find it does everything i need, easily, no confusion.
BUT, i find the HSBC site can be very temperamental. it crashes sometimes. and the messaging service is poor...often showing a new message is waiting, but not able to open it. ive had an unread message (which i don't need, i know what it was saying) for months.0 -
Haha, I've just moved to HSBC from Barclays and man, was I disappointed with the online banking. It's so simple and basic. The only thing I like about HSBC is that you don't have to insert your card into the secure code thing like you have to with other banks. However, if you don't have your secure code thing, then good luck logging on. Even the app is dire.

Barclays has been the BEST I've used so far.0 -
I find HSBC's online banking quite poor, compared with many others. Though it's better than First Direct's.
The security thing is a serious issue. Not sure what you would do if it breaks or if you lose it. Suppose you could revert to telephone banking, if you can remember all your security details. Or the ultimate inconvenience - a trip to a Branch.0 -
All banks will let you do the basics - paying bills, setting up SOs, looking at statements, may be download your statements/transactions, order cheque books or cards, and some other admin services.
Some do it better than others, some people like some interfaces better than others. But the basics can be done with all of them.
Personally, I don't have much time for HSBC's website, not least because even logging in is a pain (because of this hideous security thingy). I still use it since they have a half-decent regular saver but that's about all the attraction I have so far found with HSBC.
Don't forget the coin machine that saves you the hassle of queueing & sorting coins and the expense of 7.9% fee at Coinstar!0 -

Or when in you're in the supermarket, why not throw all your coins into the self-service machines and then, if that's not enough, pay the rest by card??
That's far better and more convenient than going to a branch to use their coin machine, and I never have unwanted coins for more than a week.0 -
i didnt realise you could pay for groceries with a pile of coins..
and the only thing i don't like with HSBC, as opposed to Barclays, is that you can only see credits the following day.0 -

I'm assuming this is sarcasm.....:rotfl:
But yes, it does amaze me that there is a coinstar machine next to the self-service machines at my local sainsburys, so I presume this is news to some people.
I'd only do this at self-service machines because, being English, I wouldn't enjoy the awkwardness of handing a pile of pennies to a real person (not to speak of the self-righteous tutting from people behind in the queue!).
I did hear that there is a coin limit on some machines, though I've never hit it. If you have jars and jars at home though it might take a few trips!0 -

I generally prefer to not use self scan where possible, as I prefer Aldi/Lidl's fully manned checkouts!
However NR oyster machines in London are perfect whenever I need change0
