Exactly! This is why you have your eyes tested every 2 years and why, 9 times out of 10 you need a new prescription, and why Boots won't make up a pair of sunglasses with an out of date prescription.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

This is the point of this thread - its not yours or the OPs decision to make, that's why the legal responsibility rests in the professionals hands. I've seen too many people lose their jobs due to to neglect of care.
Its the customers responsibility to look after their sight. An Optician cannot force you to have a checkup, but they won't help you until you do.0 -
Op,
Why don't you ask boots to give you a copy of your prescription ( remember to make sure they include pupil distance)
Go online, and order some prescription sunglasses... Problem solved.
Probably be cheaper then boots.
I have a check up 3 years or so but order my contact lenses and glasses online as its significantly cheaper, and no sanctimonious lectures!
There's a few out of the us and Europe who are reliable !0 -

I have sight issues- so I am probably more aware than my local optician of the state of my eyes. But yet, I would have no complaint if there was a refusal to issue from a perscription over two years old- it is there to protect your eyes health. There is a difference in unscripted coloured glass and scripted glass.
Yes- even a week or so can have at the least detrimental effects, not just on your eyes, but on your health. Headaches, nausea, dizziness and loss of balance are all known effects of incorrect or needed perscriptions, and there are some arguments it affects your depth perception as well- which could come into play with driving. Not least, it can alter your perscription permanantly as your eyes are forced to readjust to a script that is unsuitable- and dispensing optician has to dispense perscription glasses with an assumption for permanant use.
Plus, your eyes indicate a host of other ailments in the body. If you have a known problem with your eyes, you are careless in not being tested regularly. (sorry, OP, not a direct attack).
A contact lens check is different to a standard eye test as it measures differently- my perscriptions for contacts are different to my scripts for glasses as there are different measurements- where the corrective lens will sit, the increased curvature, etc. So can't be used in place of a standard test.
I can understand your annoyance in you only want the glasses to wear for a relatively short period, but the dispensing optician can't dispense just because they will only be used for a week- he/she has no way of validating that, and will not want actions taken against them in case something did happen- they need to protect themselves.0 -

Before you all go mental, its not a legal requirement - its a dispensing measurement, not part of the exam.
Haven't used boots , but in that case the websites have instruction on how to measure your pupil distance.
Or get another optician to do it for you.0 -
