Actually, I understand why the OP is annoyed. She only wants the sunglasses for a short period of time, and she knows her prescription is pretty good (if not perfect). I guess she prefers not to spend time+money going through the eye test when she already has a pretty good prescription.

...but I also get why the optician can't by-pass the regulations. Strange that the lens check didn't count tho.

I have a pair of prescription sunglasses that I got about 4 years ago. My eyes have changed slightly since then, but not enough to justify me buying a new pair of sunglasses when I only wear them 3 or 4 days of the year (maybe).

When they opened the opticians at our local Tesco they offered free eye tests, they weren't impressed when everyone told them they were free here anyway.

It's illegal to bypass the regulations which are there for the community's safety, not just the wearer.

The contact lens assessment isn't an eye test. It's merely an assessment of the wearer's suitability for wearing contact lenses and the strength of the lens is frequently different to the strength of spectacle lenses due to the different distance between the eye and the lens.

    Yep, not disagreeing.

Oh, I didn't realise it was a contact lens check - I must have missed that. I thought it was a check to make sure the lenses were the right ones.

In the autumn of 2011 I had my annual contact lens check which included a full eye test - as advertised by boots as part of the benefits of their pay monthly scheme - So my understanding was that I still had about 5-6 months before an eye test was due.
Annoyed with boots - yes I am because as far as I can tell although I had paid for an eye test via my contact lens payments my prescription records were not amended , so boots were either careless with my details or gave me incorrect information .

    and as for this ...

    Quote:
I have just returned from holiday, and this holiday was totally ruined due to an optician supplying me with sunglasses that were not suitable for me.
Throughout the whole time I was away I was suffering from headaches and it was only after I returned and went for an eye test that I was told that the problem arose due to the prescription sunglasses I was sold were not correct for me.

As my whole holiday was ruined, can I sue the optician who sold me these glasses using an old prescription and without insisting that I had a sight test first?

Jesus wept - I'm wearing the glasses from that prescription that boots sold me less than 18 months ago and don't have any problems at all

Was it a contact lens check or a full check?

If you had an eye test in 2011, you will still have the prescription. What date does it have on it? I suspect you only had the contact lens assessment.

Just because you aren't aware of any problems doesn't mean that your prescription hasn't changed.

Full check and contact lens check in one appointment - same as the year before .
My first eye test with boots was to join their scheme for the lenses - I don't think I got a paper copy of the eye test in either 2010 or 2011.
I had the appointment in 2011 and went back a couple of months later to get new glasses as I was not wearing the contact lenses at work any more, they just got the details from their system .
I cancelled the lens agreement in about december last year .
