Refused to sell me prescription sunglasses because my eye test is overdue

The OP wants prescription sunglasses
not just plain old sunglasses anyone can buy
You're missing my point. What if someone buying sunglasses actually needed prescription glasses? Boots's argument is that his prescription might have changed, which of course it might have. But that's the same for those with seemingly perfect sight. A fair proportion of these will actually need glasses. So by that token, Boots should be arguing that everyone who buys their glasses should be in date for an eye test."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I agree. And this is my point. If you don't, then why is Boots happy to sell you glasses if it's not happy to sell glasses to someone who has a prescription? You're both in precisely the same position - i.e. no one actually knows how your eyesight is."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Are you really not seeing the difference?
non prescription sunglasses make no adjustment to the wearers vision
if you have crap eyesight without them then you will with them
How would you administrate a system for non prescription sunglasses when they can be bought anywhere?
once more. If the OP wants to buy non prescription sunglasses then they can buy them without issue0 -

I'm not missing the point
there are no(to my knowledge) requirements on any retailer to check prescriptions on selling frames with bits of coloured plastic in them.
everyone buying prescription glasses would be subject to the eye test requirements0 -
I am currently wearing varifocals that were dispensed from my prescription about 17 months ago , I had a contact lens check just before that and my eyes were tested then . For some reason that test does not seem to count .
I intend to keep wearing the glasses as they are fine - all I wanted to do was buy a pair of £40 prescription sunglasses based on the prescription of the glasses I am currenty wearing that boots were happy to sell me 17 months ago.
Re booking an eye test they had no convenient appointments
I want the sunglasses in the next couple of weeks just for a holiday , I don't drive and would not be seen dead in clip ons .
I was annoyed because it was my decision to make.
The optician is right, you are wrong. My decision .0 -

The OP did want prescription sunglasses though, not just off the shelf everyday sunglasses. As others have said, off the shelf, non-prescription sunglasses can be bought by anyone, but the OP doesn't want this. Afraid that I am with Boots on this one.0 -

I assume you didnt mean to quote me?
otherwise you have to reread my posts0 -
Reminds me - time I booked an eye test, I don't have a prescription but do have a family history of glaucoma. I can get a free test because of this even if they weren't free normally. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Prescription sunglasses aren't cosmetic fashion items, but a medical device and as such need to be dispensed safely. Not just for the wearer, but everyone who may be affected by them, eg pedestrians if the wrong glasses were to be worn by a driver.0

Why on earth would someone want prescription sunglasses done to an old prescription, even if they are only £40?0
