Ebid vs Ebay

Yes TD, but I'm asking where this information is in fact - not silly gossip.

Because I'm actually sure there would be hell to pay if you substituted the eBay name for eBid in your statement, yet it seems quite acceptable to say it about the sellers on eBid. Which, means me and that affects my business reputation.

You really should be aware that making such statements, just by passing the gossip on, makes you liable not just the person who originally made the statement.
After all, what's that old saying, 'The only thing that gives a lie it's strength is the fool who believes it.'
    Yeah whatever
Because people don't say that ebay are full of scammers and counterfiet goods... oh wait- yes they do.

It's a reputation- not a actual percentage that can be pointed at.
And to be honest, totally brutally honest, most of our buyers on ebay are new buyers, and somehow they must be managing to work out the feedback system because with 2 neutrals, no negatives and a DSR range of between 4.7 and 4.9 we are doing okay.
Yes we are lucky, but we're not that lucky, and I can only conclude that quite a bit of the buyers are too stupid to work it out business must be an excuse, sorry.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I won't post direct links to ebid as I'm sure that breaks ebid site rules but look at the kitchen table thread in the forums 16 september 02.29 for a new user who moved to ebid after being banned..that's just the first one I found.

So if we are wanting to sue the gossips better start with ebid users themselves...oh dear!

Also whilst I have a lot of issues with ebay I wouldn't continue to sell there if I didn't turn a rather nice profit.

My business sales are slow at the moment as I have very little listed, but if i got my act together again I could earn myself some hefty FVF discounts to further reduce my overheads. My personal sales are doing very well indeed and selling off odds and ends that my DS's have got bored with has netted them several hundred pounds so far.

What I have never understood, and this is not the thread for it as it is completely off Topic is why people state they don't like ebay as they take a loss on their goods? Surely anyone with basic maths does their figures before they list something..not everything can sell if you can't make a profit then surely the logical answer is not to sell that line of goods

  • Lots of sellers are being banned on eBay - boards are full of them - and for the most unreasonable reasons going, but what you are intimating is that the sellers on eBid are, on the whole, BAD sellers who have been kicked off eBay - correct, because I'll tell you now, that's how your statements are intepreted.

Well, just how many sellers do you need to get that do interpret 4 as merely 'good,' to get kicked off eBay, TD? Two, three, four ... or would one, just one, be enough now to get you suspended?
The point being is this is normally a GRADED system.

I've been on eBay 10 years and got one negative - But I'm on eBid so I must be a BAD seller - yes?

And, Soolin, what a laughable contradiction. If I've got this right you actually list on eBid as well?
You did say you had 10 feedback and I'm presuming that's not on eBay.

So, eBay is all that's wonderful, eBid isn't worth it and the sellers there have a reputation of being kicked off eBay, yet you sell on there - I wonder why?

As per other threads I have been listing on ebid for well over 5 years now and have never sold anything at all, not even a sniff of a buyer at prices lower than ebay.

I pulled all my listings a few months back but then realised that I was not in a position to comment on ebid if I no longer had a selling presence, so I returned and have a lot of my stock listed there.

That way if people ask what sales are like compared to ebay I can tell them my own experience and not rely purely on the negative comments posted on a number of forums on the net.

All my feedback on ebid is as a buyer as I used to buy things cheaply on ebid and resell on ebay at a high markup.

Here we go again - go read my other post if you need this reconfirming.

NOT EVERYBODY ON EBAY SELLS BRAND NEW CONSUMER GOODS!
and people like you, come jumping on the bandwagon halfway through the game, spouting ridiculous nonsense because they only ever deal in LINES.

Sometimes, some of us, actually have to utilize a bit of prior knowledge and experience to both buy and sell items.
You see a painting at a boot, it's £20. Now is it worth a tenner or £200?

Do you buy it, or not?
How much is it going to cost to post?
When it's wrapped will you be able to ship it to the US at a reasonable price or will it exceed the RM guidelines and it have to go by (expensive) courier?
    Is it fake?

Do I really have to go on?

For crying out loud, get real.

Missed the bit about my personal sales?

I am also quite capable of using a set of scales and a postage calculator.

I would also point out that if you are buying at car boot sales to sell on at a profit then you are a business so all your losses would be offset against your auction income for tax purposes anyway.

I've been selling on Ebay for over 7 years (100% positive FB I might add :) ) but I only sell what's mine, I don't buy-to-sell. I only really started selling in large quantities in the last year. I've sold just about everything I own so I'm scraping the barrel now - don't have the luxury of switching away from unprofitable lines :)

Can you really make any money buying on Ebid and selling on Ebay???

    Soolin - So what!

You sit at home and work out how much is it going to cost to send a skirt - you're point is?

I was talking about going out, seeing an item and working all this stuff out there and then without the added advantage of walking around with a pair of scales and an RM postal rates form.

Of course I can off-set losses against tax - I actually don't want losses!
  • When I'm buying stock, which I don't actually need at the moment, I buy on eBay and sell it back on both of them!

None of the above. 4 even in a month would not make a huge amount of difference. Probably to smaller sellers it would, but then smaller sellers sell to less people so will have less chance of getting those ratings. It's one and two stars that we have to worry about which by any standards is below expectations.

Some sellers who get kicked off ebay go on to sell on ebid, no I don't have figures, but it is common sense. A large proportion who do get kicked off ebay are not sellers that I, as a buyer, would want to deal with especially with less protection than ebay offers.

Oh and as a aside- we don't sell new stuff, in fact we buy from ebay and then sell to ebay, so we rely on our knowledge, and yet from month two of trading we have been making a profit- not sure how selling on ebid for 99p (our one sale after months of trying which then didn't pay) instead of £18 (our ebay all time high on auction before we moved to buy it now only) would help keep us in the black though.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine
