his sick pay has not run out, he was removed from the company occupational sick pay scheme, so now he is only entitled to SSP

OP, how about approaching the bank and getting a small, temporary overdraft, just to cover you for the coming rent?

I cannot get overdraft or loan etc, my credit is extremely poor
  • lippy1923, I am open to comments and advice, I would just appreciate them to be fair and helpful. I did consider speaking to our letting agent as an option but I was not sure what to say and I desperately want to avoid incurring more debt or making more problems for ourselves further down the line

Is it still allowed to take holiday pay that you have accrued instead of sick pay? I know this was done about 20 years ago but not sure if rules allow this now - and he would need to have some holidays outstanding.
Would his employer give him a sub?

Have you posted a SOA on the debt free board? A great bunch on there who can help with reducing outgoings which may help you.

Edit- Ignore me. Just seen you posted one in March.

If you definitely are not going to make the rent payment then I think the sooner you can let them know and come to arrangements for it the better, some rent is better than no rent and shows a commitment.

So much advice on getting a job, easier said than done.

Anyhoo back on topic. You won't be able to change your tax credits until your husband starts on SSP. Then you would notify them of a change of circumstances. Which should increase your award providing that there wasn't a period he was on SSP last year.

Taking paid holiday is also an option unless he's only allowed to take set holidays. Like some of the building trade up here get the Glasgow fair holidays off.

Unfortunately, those rules with HB are the way they stand. It may be worthwhile speaking to your landlord prior to the op in the hope that they are understanding.

    Good luck

Could he be redeployed by his employer to lighter duties instead of being off for weeks/months? Having had a broken collar bone years ago, I sympathise, but apart from heavy manual work, it doesn't stop you from moving about or doing desk based work. Depends what he does for a living I guess.

    What do you mean by

He is out of the company sick pay scheme? Do you mean his pay has ended and therefore SSP only or do you mean he has had 6 months.

When did he go off sick - ie how long ago in months?
