  • Hi Muser1, thanks for the comment on my diary, I have just updated.

Well done on getting the mortgage below £100k - a huge achievement! xxx
2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
    Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(

Mortgage ops on hold. DIY project has cost at least 1.5k more than anticipated so far. We will have a lot better house for it and sure it will add a lot to the value but short term we are broke:(

This just shows how much I need to get a buffer sorted. I've borrowed the extra off family so at least it's interest free. But hate owing.

It's looking good though and I have bought some lovely quality bits(curtains, lights etc) that will last forever so am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Lazy day today both kids at their Grandparents. So been on here and doing surveys etc. Got a £10 pay out from Arg0s going to buy DDs first Christmas present with it.

Ooops, shame the work is coming in at such a cost, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it once it's all done... It's all about balance, so enjoy

Just had a call from a very generous family member who lent us the extra house money saying that I was to consider the money a gift and not a loan. So lovely and I'm very touched. House will be fab and I can still make the extra £100 regular op. I'm considering reducing the term when we get straighter.

Just ordered a cheeky Chinese takeaway. Yum can't wait.

  • How wonderful.
Not sure I will ever be able to offer the same level to my kids, but I think most of us that read your post do hope by clever money management at this time will allow us to offer financial help to our siblings at a higher level if we were not so savy with our money.
I have promised to pay for my eldest car insurance for a yr, likely to be around 4K, if she makes it to Uni to study as a midwife, for some placements require the students to have transport.
Just want to say, once again, Well Done!
  • Muser did you ever get the spreadsheets sorted out?

A very very basic one! Would be laughable I think to most people but it does the job for now. Thanks. :)
