If he was married in London before 1921 the certificate might be part of the London Metropolitan Archives which are available on Ancestry.

Thanks everyone - we just wanted to know where / when he got married to my nan as no-one seems to have any idea! and they have both passed away now. :(

It's always too late when you think of all the things you should have asked someone........

    Not in London - Shropshire!

Guessing it was in the 1950's or maybe 60's?

some libraries have free access to ancestry.com- I know Norfolk does. Or you can find your local FamilySearch centre- look on Familysearch.org (Run by the church of LDS)

I have rejoined ancestry after a year of not subscribing to find that the search facility seems to have changed.

for example, i want to search for a death between 1851 and 1861 for a particular surname (no first name).

if i do this, it brings up hundreds of options. so i want to narrow down the location of the death to 'norfolk'

if i put in norfolk, it still doesnt discriminate between areas.

if i put in norfolk and tick 'exact' for the location, it brings up no matches at all and advises me to untick the exact box????????

yet in the results pages when the box is unticked are loads of matches for norfolk

this is crazy, its not way near as good as it used to be

I used to but couldn't afford to renew my subscription this year.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to contact them with your feed back.

I also find the new search on ancestry frustrating! So go to the old search...I'm sure there is a quicker way but this is how I find it:

    open ancestry home page
select census & electoral roles from the drop down box
just under the "home" tab is a link - "search" - click on it
over on the far right is "go to old search"

Enjoy the old search - so much easier for refining :)
