I offer recorded but so few people take it up I find it hard to remember to check if anyone has paid it. I go into auto pilot when posting and packing. If you sent a polite e-mail to me I would certainly refund recorded plus a bit more (say a £1). I would assume it was an error until you hear otherwise.

Then your response will of course depend on their response and how they handle it.

From a sellers point of view recorded delivery is not worth doing if the item is under £20, there are a few powersellers who charge for recorded delivery and send 1st class, saves them queuing at post office to get recorded slip stamped. If 1 in 100 does not get delivered the seller has made £65 on the 100 recorded and the cost to him of replacing 1 sub £20 item is about £10.
I know its not what you want to hear, and I am not condoning it, but it is more and more commonplace, as you can see from the replies above.
Again from a buying point of view you have to take all the postage costs into account and add them to the cost of the product to determine if you are getting fair value, as long as you pay using paypal in the vast majority of cases you will be covered if you do not receive the item.

Well i emailed them a lovely email and basically they didn't have a clue about postage full stop. They had Special Delivery and Recorded down for the same thing   No newbie seller either...feedback of nearly 300! Further on in their reply, they got really defensive going on about ebay listing costs, shoe leather etc...I wasn't actually complaining about the price of the P+P..I ALWAYS take that into consideration b4 placing any bids full stop and on this occasion I had no qualms with it at all. Oh and this person is no powerseller, let me assure you on that.

Anyway, I've decided to leave it at that cos they haven't yet left me feedback and i'm probably in for a neutral now anyway even though my complaint was a valid one and I paid them straight after auction. :(

    they sound like complete dingbats!
  • Was trying to buy a camcorder battery the other week and most of the sellers were charging £4.95 for recorded delivery. This is on an item weighing 60 odd grammes. Quite a few of the feedbacks for one seller commented on the postage only costing £1.80+. I queried why postage was so high for such a light item and got the response that it was to cover the item in question, the recorded delivery, the padded envelope and an administration fee. In other words, they are making an extra £3.00 per item and not paying any extra fees to eBay.

If it were me I'd mention it to the seller first to see what they say. In the mean time I wouldn't leave any feedback until they do. I wouldn't use the feedback system to blackmail them.

If you don't get anywhere or they don't care and don't respond then I might consider leaving the neg. 65p not a big loss, but it's still your 65p
:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:

    i would not do anything

a lot of ebayers self insure items, i often do for smaller value items.

you paid for recorded, insured to £28 delivery, so if the item had gone missing, the seller was liable to send you a new item.

the transaction went ok, the 65p was put in the pot for losses, 45 of those 65p's cover 1 item going missing of £28 value

    everyone gains here

if you had not paid extra, then technically the seller is liable to ensure that it arrives to the purchaser, however, as an auction, the item wont be subject distance regs.

as a Buy It Now item, it could be subject to distance selling regs, and it wasnt received

personally if insurance is not paid for and the item goes missing, i say tough luck, and out of nearly 600 transaction s on ebay, only 1 parcel ever went missing, that guy got very nasty about it.

the parcel turned up 6 months later, i sent it immediatley to the guy (who'd given a wrong address to post to!)

I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

you got the product, its 65p you have lost out on and the seller has stated that they will give you money off any future purchases. what more do you want? No offence but i cant really see what else the seller can do too put it right. Come round and clean your house from top to bottom? Write lines? Surely its no big drama?
