I should have also pointed out that they have pre-booked my seats for me as well, so I definitely have two together, a window and middle seat! Hopefully my friend will check in and get the aisle seat! :)

I think this is a lot more common than you'd think nowadays.

    However.......

I was flying on my own and as usual booked an aisle seat. A guy who was quite large was sat in the window seat and I was delighted when no-one took the middle seat.

So, happy as Larry, once the seatbelt sign came off I lifted the armrest and had myself a little stretch out. Bag and books on the middle seat, legs all over the place etc. I made sure I only used half the seat as I'm not that rude :D

It must have been three quarters of the wat through the flight when the guy, who I'd obviously been driving mad, plucked up the courage to tell me he had paid for the seat. I told him I'd never have known from his size as he wasn't like enormous. He said it was for comfort which I had enjoyed. Eek!

So I hope your friend gets the other seat but if not I would definitely mention it to the person who does!

Ha Ha... I have my seat numbers for the flight already, and have a window and middle seat. My friend always prefers an aisle seat so hopefully when she checks in online the day before she'll grab the aisle seat in plenty of time. She normally checks in as soon as is allowed which is 22 hours before the flight with this airline! :) [I'll keep you posted how things go!]

With online checkin, it doesn't matter how far in advance you check in, most airlines who offer seat selection will automatically select a seat and then charge you to change it. So unless your friend is willing to pay extra, there's no guarantee that she'll be seated in your row.

What are the average seat size on airplanes ... I've tried googling but a lot seems related to the US
Maybe due to the US spelling of aeroplanes?

Not with the airline we are flying with, you get to choose your own seat when you check in for no extra cost and we get a standard 23KG baggage allowance for 1 bag! :) Its not a budget airline!
