OH always liked Lufthansa: seats designed for big German bums!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

Decided to bite the bullet and book an extra seat on a flight I am taking next month... I'm already feeling the anxiety about having to sit next to someone and 'me' spilling into their seat... Paying the £110 for the extra seat is so worth it!
I've never done this before, but the last flight I took (over 2 years ago!) with this airline I was sat at the back of the plane and in a row of three I was in the window seat, the middle seat remained empty and the aisle seat was taken up by a man larger than me... I make the assumption he had bought the extra seat as the flight was packed apart from the empty seat between us!
I've usually been lucky and often ended up with an empty seat next to me, or if someone has been sitting next me and there are empty seats the flight crew offer the chance for me to move...
However this time I'm forking out the money to ensure I can have two seats! Feeling less anxious already! :eek:0 -
i flew on easy jet at size 28 and was fine and it was only a lil plane just got the extender we were in a large group so put one of the kids next to me lolThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50

At a size 20 you'll have no problem whatsoever, you shouldn't have bothered booking an extra seat! I'd even be surprised if you needed a seatbelt extension really.0

OP, you'll be absolutely fine.
I'm surprised by some of the replies though. Flying in my size 18 jeans at Xmas, the seat belt was surprisingly tight on an Easyjet plane. I was slightly horrified. It was better (2 inches?) coming back on BA, but I can't see that a size 30 person could fit in something like an Easyjet seat remotely comfortably, let alone without a seat belt extension.0 -
I flew with Ryanair when I was a size 24 and was fine - fitted into one seat and didn't need an extender. Im a size 16 now but haven't tried flying recently.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

I agree. A size 20 will be fine. I flew at that size numerous times. But any bigger becomes tricky. I definitely needed an extension at size 24/26 and was decidedly uncomfortable in my seat. I couldn't bring the tray down, and would have felt very uncomfortable with strangers next to me. A size 30 will NOT fit comfortably in an airline seat, and will definitely spill over on either side.0 -
I fly very regularly with work & leisure and am a size 20ish at the moment, but have been bigger. I find that even with the same airline the length of seatbelt varies between planes, and even different seats on the plane. In some cases I have to had it at its longest, and others I have a few inches to spare.
I have never had to ask for an extender, but have seen a couple of people needing them and the cabin crew are very low key about it. It is normally when they are doing the checks just before take off people ask and it is handled very discreetly.0 -
Oh dear perhaps I should not have resurrected a thread from last year!0

Just to point out to other posters that the original poster (I wanna save money) was size 20. The thread was started in May last year and the OP was flying in June 2013.
Twisted Cherry - who has booked an extra seat - has not said what size she is, so assurances that she would have been OK at size 20 aren't relevant.0
