Can I dare to go on the MFW journey

Enjoy your night out, resilie. OPing a mortgage isn't supposed to be unremitting grind - you're meant to do some fun things every now and again even if they do cost money, and investing in quality friendships is worth it.

Thanks Lois-unfortunately I never had much trouble enjoying myself... also just paid for some flights 135 £ on the debit card.... ahhh
Quick general question- where best to list academic books? Am@zon or ebay?0 -
Hi resilie. Was just looking through your list and you seem to be doing amazingly well already but one thing to consider if you plan to grow your own veg year after year is to get them from the Real Seed catalogue - not sure if we're allowed to put links but if you google the name you'll find it. The seeds are slightly more expensive but they have an amazing (and unusual) range and they're non-hybrid so you can save your own seed and use them year after year. Also, if you have a bit of spare time on your hands you could check out a site called sw@gbucks. You earn points that can be redeemed for am@zon vouchers etc.
Good luck on your journey

Hi Resilie, I found fatbrain a good site for academic books. They are quite fussy, but pay good amounts if they want the type you are selling.mortgage 1 33,000. paid nov 2012
. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k0 -
Made a huge pot of bolognese and now having to eat ice cream to free up freezer space

Well, as you've already found out, there are sacrifices that need to be made if you want to be mortgage free
.Early payday tomorrow due to Bank Holiday- the question is to overpay at the start of the month and hence forcing myself to stick to a budget or see what I can safe and not get caught out.... thoughts?
Glad you took the sensible option :rotfl:. Check out my signature - as you've found out, once it's gone you have no option but to stick to the budget
.
With you on the holidays - that's something I won't compromise on
.
Have you tried turning the water off after 3 minutes  ?A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Kirsty- thanks for the tip. I'll have a look at the site tomorrow... have a textbook worth about £80 that is no use for me at all...
Was at work all day today with packed lunch so only spent on petrol (saved just over £2 thanks to the Shell voucher tip)
Weekend was productive but not cheap- did a lot of gardening and laid some turf. Should all be worth it once the veggies start growing...
The lodger is still an issue and ultimately she'll need to go but I just havent got the heart to tell her.... coward I am
BTW has anyone else noticed that most MFW are female? Are we genetically programmed for this?0 -
So had a look at fatbrain- not quite the right platform me thinks. That book goes for £130 on ebay and £80 on amazon marketplace- never sold anything on either platform. Any advise? There seem to be steep fees on amazon but you can subscribe for free for 3 months..... hmmmm always been a gumtree sort of person but this item is not right for there...0

Just overpayed 4500!! Combination of tax rebate and transfer from different account- now have not quite as much buffer zone in my current account but will be ok till next payday.... great feeling0

After last night's overpayment (done drunkenly via internet banking- potentially dangerous me thinks) I have now finally gone through everything, done a signature ( lets see if it works) and set myself a target of overpaying 1200 a month for the next year. Ultimate goal is to get below 100k mark in 2 years.
Still haven't managed to figure out how much I have already reduced my term by.... well a few years I hope
Put some stuff on eb@y and gummytree earlier in the week but no luck so far. Went through expenses at work and put in a claim for travel expenses, course expenses and some overtime- they always take ages to pay you though so might not be till July payday that I get any of that money.
Job from August also not clear yet- three possibilities but undecided... need to really sort that out....
Weekend will be spend cleaning, gardening and taking OH out for his birthday meal :-)0 -
Thank you summerholiday for your posts.
As far as gas and electricity are concerned I did the Big Switch through Which last year and just checked the other day and I think I'm on the best tarrif I could be. Plus it's with C00p which I prefer to tax avoiders like NP0wer....
Lodger is a massive resource drain- but I think she is getting better.... goes to the gym a lot but doesn't like showering there so ends up having 2 showers a day... no reason why she needs an electric heater other than the fact that she doesnt quite understand the concept of jumpers
On the plus side she usually goes home over the weekend and more often than not gets her mum to do her washing... I like your clock idea- will see if I can find one... my initial approach was slightly passive aggressive- leaving the water bill on the table for 2 weeks:rotfl:
Omg your lodger must be a relative of my lodger! My oh timed her the other day and she was literally 20 mins in the shower... I'm not exaggerating! She also still has her heaters on in her room full blast and then opens the windows... It's June! Has no one told her!Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k
Savings: £3k
Aim: 100k by Dec 20210
