Nor, it appears, is contributing anything useful.
Your personal contribution to this thread (other than berating me for mine) has been what exactly?:p

The relevant part of the relevant act:
    (2A)
For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.

I mean technically speaking a reasonable person would probably expect a £1 pair of headphones to work, just not very well. They might also expect them to last a shorter length of time than more expensive headphones.

For the sake of £2 though, this really isn't worth it. And wasting a lot of time over a matter of principle is similarly not really worth it.

Just my experience, but I have taken things back to Poundland (much to the amusement of whichever mate I have out shopping with me at the time).

I've always got the receipt and take the items back promptly as I'm lucky enough to live reasonably near the branches I visit.

A while back I got external speakers (tiny little things) that fit via an Android phone's 3.5mm headphone socket. They were WORSE than the phone's internal speaker!

Took them back, and the manager barely batted an eyelid, go and pick yourself up something from the shelves, she said.

Can't understand why they're making such a big thing about it..if the headphones don't work properly I'd have thought they'd be more understanding. The fact that the headphones work, but are erratic over a period of time (re the assistant trying them out in a back room), does make things a bit more difficult for you, though.

Ultimately, if the Poundland branch were refusing to budge, I wouldn't bother about it too much, as it's hardly a shedload of money. I'd be annoyed but it wouldn't put me off going back.

I have had a similar problem with Currys where I bought a hoover after 10 months it does not work loss of suction and overheating - they have given me the following response - is this correct - should I take them to the small claims court - the hoover was £90. They said they have a choice to refund or repair and Samsung gives it a 2 yr guarantee so they want to repair it

    Any help appreciated.

Thanks for getting back in touch with us.

Regrettably, I can only re-iterate what has been mentioned by my colleagues. The Sales of Goods Act gives us, as the retailer, the choice of whether we wish to follow a repair route or to refund the product. In this case, and in the case of most electronic items, we would follow the repair route. As Samsung has a 2 year warranty on this product, we would use them as our repair agents and the reason we suggested that you contact Samsung directly is because returning it to us would mean that we would just be acting as a middle-man between you and the repair agents, Samsung.

I understand the frustration that may be caused by the cleaner becoming faulty, however, I hope that we have laid out our position on the matter and would suggest that you contact Samsung directly to resolve the repair of the vaccuum cleaner. As per my previous colleague's suggestion, I would advise you to contact Samsung on 0845 726 7864.

Thanks for taking the time to contact us again and I hope that you manage to get a resolution to this issue soon.

I wouldn't say this was similar to ops situation at all - unless you've bought 3 hoovers and paid a derisory sum, which you haven't.

Due to the length of time you've had it, they are correct, they can effectively choose the most cost effective remedy to them - repair, replacement or (partial) refund... them choosing to send it off to their sub-contractors for repair is within their rights.

Also, they could insist you prove the fault is inherent. But if they are not requiring you do so, then take the repair and be pleased they offer better CS than many electrical retailers.

I disagree, taking out the back to test (I would imagine that is where a sound source would be) would make sense. If the OP can demonstrate the fault in front of the staff then they may be more forthcoming.
As the headphones are less than 6 months old it's for Poundland to demonstrate they work not for the Op to demonstrate they don't.

Dont buy electricals from any pound style stores, they buy them out the back door of Chinese factories.

None of them are made to British standards, have certification or indeed been tested.

More fool you for buying electrical rubbish from Poundland.

Yes I do actually, I have sent there stuff to Nemko, and they always fail testing.

    And you are ignorant.

OK, so to take your claims one at a time:

"Dont buy electricals from any pound style stores, they buy them out the back door of Chinese factories."
So what you're saying is all pound shops have dodgy sources of electrical goods from China. An intriguing claim, yet no evidence, and almost certainly libellous.

    "None of them"
    Every electrical product they sell?

    "are made to British standards"
Which standards? Are you claiming they don't meet the legal requirements, or just the standards one would expect from a product?

    "have certification"
What certification do they lack? Again, do they fail to meet a legal requirement, or are they just missing their cycling proficiency?

    "or indeed been tested."
What sort of testing? Individual product testing or generic quality control?

"More fool you for buying electrical rubbish from Poundland."
The OP didn't actually buy the product.
