I don't think I have ever seen a guitar shop. Staying out of one can't be that hard.0

You'd be surprised, there are several near me and I spent two days this week in London where there are many and various.
I say guitar shops but most would be better classified as music shops as they sell all manner of instruments an the trappings that go with them. One of my favourites is a guitar shop and it's only 30 minutes away as the car flies.
Take a look at this beauty

Choosing instead to have their heads in their phones, whilst telling other mates on faceache what a wonderful time they are having out, with the friends they are blatantly ignoring. Hello, how back to front is that
Some friends and colleagues of mine behave as if their oxygen supply has been cut off, if they cant get a signal or shock horror something happens to their phone. They seriously need to get a grip :rotfl:
So true Marisco, but thanks for the giggle as well.:D0 -

I work in a supermarket and the other day I assisted a customer who had his ipad placed in the child seat bit of the trolley. He had a recipe or shopping list on there, he kept referring to it before examining products.
I couldn't decide if that was a good or bad thing.
Anyway i'm off now to check on facebook!0 -
I wouldn't dream of going back to a basic phone.
My phone goes everywhere with me. I feel utterly lost if I forget it.
But do I Check it every few minutes? No because it alerts me if I'm getting a message/call/email so why would I need to keep looking at it?
I check emails manually a few times a day but not if I'm out and about. Never check FBI or twitter when I'm out either. They are great for when you're bored though. Helps pass that 20 mins at the bus stop/train station. I can read whilst I wait for a friend if they're late. Gives me something to do whilst is otherwise be twiddling my thumbs.
Do I absolutely need Internet on the go? To check emails, Facebook and twitter? No. But technology today allows me to and I see no reason why I shouldn't take advantage of that if I want.Sigless0 -
If i'm not in work (when its switched off) i do check my phone a lot. It notifys me if i have anything on fb which usually makes me check it

i do feel like my phone is some kind of thired limb..i'd be lost without it

I've got a cheap and cheerful phone for calls and texts, I think it can get internet but frankly I don't care. I spend quite enough time on the internet for work and general social stuff as it is, I don't need any more of my life evaporating into the ether. So to use the internet I have to make a concious decision to come through here to the study and switch on my pc.
Even when out and about my phone lives in my bag, if I'm in the house it still lives in my bag unless one of the kids is out and about then it comes down to the garden etc with me. Check my phone regularly? Yes of course, I do it once a day. Drives my more phone addicted friends nuts.
As to folk sitting fiddling non stop with phones while visiting or when we're out together I'm afraid I do make a comment if it gets too intrusive. Do you know though I've never had a negative reaction to this, most folk look embarrassed and say they hadn't realised they looked at their phone so much. And I'd murder my kids or OH if they started to use their phone at the table, even at home, or if we were sitting doing something like watching a dvd together. I firmly belive the person actually sitting in front of you is currently x10 more important and worthy of your attention than all your virtual ones put together, unless there is some sort of possible emergency or crisis brewing and you do need to answer your phone if a text or call comes through.
I don't take a laptop or netbook on holiday with me either, I can easily manage four weeks without internet access. OH takes one for work, he spends an hour a day on it if that, just to keep abreast of things. The kids take their gaming widgets and a dvd player, the rest of the time we rely on each other for entertainment.
I don't have Facebook or Twitter. I knit on long train or car journeys. (OH drives!). I have a lot of hobbies, I read a fair bit, I like to visit folk and talk face to face. Yes, I'm an old luddite! But at least I don't panic if my phone can't get a signal, i probably don't even notice.Val.0 -
My iPhone is like an extension of my arm and I couldn't be without it! (I'm typing this on it) yesterday for example I went to London last minute to watch a rugby game. I booked coach and train tickets on it and had the tickets sent to my phone, I used it to listen to music on the way down and I read a book on my Kindle app. When I arrived I used an app to find which Tube station I needed to get off at, and then to find the ground when I got lost after leaving the station. I then used it to call my friend to tell her I had seen the team pass me while I was waiting to cross the road (trivial I know
) I used it to take a video of the team during the National Anthems and some pictures of the player I had gone to see. Another of the players took a picture of me with this player after the game and I then connected it via USB to the photo machine at Boots in St Pancras to print off said photo. I accessed my email on he phone to show my email booking confirmation so I could board the train home, and listened to music on it and sent the photo to my friend. That is precisely why I couldn't have a basic mobile!! *The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

God knows what it'll be like when these start getting used. http://www.google.com/glass/start/what-it-does/
I saw those on a programme the other day! I wasn't keen!0 -
Interesting replies - thank you.
I haven't got so bad that I use my phone when talking to friends, thank goodness! Or talking to anyone actually.
This thread has highlighted the other massive advantage though - it's very handy to have the camera.
And I would struggle without the calendar reminders.
I haven't had notifications for a while and I won't have the latest FB app as the compulsory privacy settings are scary!
At the moment, FB isn't working in my phone browser so I am just accessing it via a pic or tablet when at home. You know what, I think I enjoy it more that way!
I don't post or chat as much as I read - I'm in a few groups on there and I like reading the information posted. It's actually better to read more at once as I get varying opinions at the same time.
Sooo, I don't think I'll do away with my smart phone (it is very useful) but I've been switching off mobile data and using the Internet part as I would a PC.
I'm feeling less tied to it now so that's a good compromise I think.
Games is the next step! :rotfl:0
