I also stopped checking facebook during sex for the same reason.

But what if he facebooks that he is on his way home?

    What is a 'check in'?

It's where your smartphone finds your exact location and then displays where you are on Facebook. So the check in that all her friends on it could see xxxxx has checked in at xxxxxx Crematorium.

I'm a downgrader and proud! I had a smart phone and it broke, it wasn't insured, so I popped to the supermarket and got a basic £13 Samsung phone as a temporary measure. Well that was about 6 months ago now and I don't think I'd go back to a smart phone. They can be so distracting! I soon got used to basic technology, the only 2 things that are annoy me is the ridiculously small capacity text message inbox (have to delete msgs to receive) and no camera. I know I could use a digital camera, but I don't have one - I liked my smartphone for that.

In saying that though, I do spend a lot of time on my laptop when I'm in the house.

Are we probably all a bit guilty of that, judging by the number of posts people have contributed to this forum? ;)

I admit I am on smartphone often (like... err, now!), and OH does get annoyed at times - in my defence I am usually look in up recipes or useful information (MSE!)

However,I do detest the phone culture on a night out, or when you invite someone to your house. A few months ago OHs brother helped us move some stuff from his house to our new one, he helped unloaded his car but as soon as walked into the house that he'd not even seen yet, he plonked himself down on the sofa and started paying Angry Birds! Grrrr!

My partner and I went out with some friends from work the other week, all the adults there were busy checking in on their phones, tagging photos and playing 4 pics one word etc and the teenagers in the group were sitting at another table, laughing, chatting and playing pool. Almost seemed upside down.

I love my iPhone! It's one of my favourite possessions. I don't have a lot of 'techno gadgets' as buy technology based on what it does for me, not just for the sake of owing the latest gadget. And the numerous functions of my smartphone makes a lot of things in life easy, convenient and most of all, enjoyable.

The secret though is that the technology should work for you. I see too many people these days who seem addicted to their smartphones and other gadgets to the point they are the main focus in life. Technology should help you - not rule you.

Up till a year ago I had a very old nokia phone, that was literally held together with selotape at one point, after one of my sons dropped it. So you can tell how gadget crazy I am. When it inevitably gave up the ghost I did invest in a smartphone and it does have its uses.

That said though I probably dont use it to its full potential at all. If I am with my friends my focus is on them and enjoying their company. I dont feel the need to be checking my phone constantly, as another poster said if you get a message or call then you know when that comes through. As and when that happens I do look at my phone quickly, as it may be an urgent call from my sons childminder, but I excuse myself with my friends first just to be courteous to them.

I dont feel the need to be updating faceache, dont use twitter and my emails can definately wait. I have all day at work and time enough at home in the evenings to check through those. I often see people barely socialising or communicating with those they are out and about with. Choosing instead to have their heads in their phones, whilst telling other mates on faceache what a wonderful time they are having out, with the friends they are blatantly ignoring. Hello, how back to front is that

I appreciate technology is very useful but it worries me how so many people seem totally reliant on it 24/7. Some friends and colleagues of mine behave as if their oxygen supply has been cut off, if they cant get a signal or shock horror something happens to their phone. They seriously need to get a grip :rotfl:
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I was in the supermarket some months ago and there was a 30 something woman in front of me weaving an unsteady path and often bumping into other people because she was pushing her trolley with one hand and holding the phone with the other.

Every 10 seconds she looked at, I was itching to tell her that the damned thing goes bingly, bongly beep when anything happens meaning you don't have to keep looking at it! You could even put it in a pocket and they vibrate in case you don't hear them!

Or, being a smartphone, her shopping list might be on it.

I just have a fairly normal mobile phone.

I think it can be used to get on the Internet, but I've never used it for that. It's just for the odd text or call I may need to make.

When I'm out and about, especially on the train or underground, I'm staggered by the amount of people that are constantly fondling their mobile phones. It's as if they can't bear to leave it alone for one minute.

I do have a Facebook account, but last logged in about 18 months ago. I think it's a bit of a conceit, this need to tell everyone about the tiniest details of your life. Let's face it, most people's lives are pretty boring really, there's no real need to plaster every last detail over the Internet.

However, I do enjoy the Internet, and use it a lot, for my eBaying, family history, MSE and other forums, and general reference purposes.

Up until late last year I just used my laptop, which lives in the spare room, and when I'd done for the day I'd switch it off and that was that. However, last November I got an iPad, and I'm online even more now, as it is there to use at a moments notice, wherever I am in the house. It's great for music and games too.

However, it stays at home, and I enjoy going out without constantly wondering if I have any emails to look at. They can wait until I get back home.

I'm on quite a long cruise later this year and the iPad will be going with me for my music and games. I MAY find a free wifi place in a couple of the ports to look at emails, but I'm not going to spent the whole day fretting about it.
