I imagine that much of that is due to boredom and finding things on the phone to provide mild entertainment.
Approximately every two weeks I have the joy of visiting our London office. I always take the train as it is a ninety minute journey and the station in London that the service stops at is a few minutes walk from the office. If I have work to be doing I'll take my laptop with me and get on with it on the train but when I don't have work to be doing it makes no sense to take the laptop.
Often, I'll end up mucking about on my smartphone, reading Internet articles, deleting/archiving old emails, reading news etc.
I dislike sitting around for 90 minutes doing absolutely nothing, so doing something on my phone is better than that. And every now and again I do get something important to do when an email comes through.
I will say though when I'm at home I'm forever leaving my phone in a different room. It's quite common for me to find it and see a few text messages or missed calls. It's also fairly common for me to forget to switch it off silent mode when I wake up.
I don't tend to use it when in the company of friends, unless I'm looking something up that the pair of us are interested in, or perhaps showing them an amusing video I discovered on Youtube.0 -
My smartphone is invaluable all the time.
My friend communicated to me via Facebook that she wanted a particular cake, and provided the recipe. It was an American recipe. I used the unit convertor to understand both the measurement and the cooking temp, as well as the torch app to see to the back of my baking cupboard.
Yes I could have done those things anyway, but it wouldn't have been at the touch of a button.
I was stuck in traffic, and communicated to my husband, via the voice texting service, that the traffic was awful. He left work right away and avoided the traffic by using an alternative route, provided by the sat nav on his smartphone.
Say what you like, but I'll not give mine up in a hurry!Debt free as of July 2010 :j

All of the above is exactly what a smartphone is designed for but does it live in your hand so you can check it every 30 seconds like some tourets tic or do you do the sensible thing and keep it in a bag or pocket until beeps or rings?
I wonder if the people who check them constantly even realise they're doing it.

You want to think yourself lucky, I'm addicted to guitar shopping and that don't come cheap.
I've been told that I'm not allowed in guitar shops without a responsible adult.
Apparently most of my friends do not fall into this category. :cool:One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
