Have to agree with rev_henry, saving 2 or 3 grand on insurance on a car that cost £800-1000 is well worth it. If something major goes wrong and it costs over £1000 to fix, just scrap it and get a new one. You will still be better off.0

Does anyone take london tiger seriously on these forums? She/he posts so much misinformation.
I have had many old cars in days gone by, but never replaced a starter motor not even when I raced bangers
the cheaper insurance costs alone could make the 75 the best buy, without taking anything else in to account0 -
Only time I ever had a starter motor problem on one of the many cars I have owned over the years, I took it off cleaned a sticking bendix pinion replaced it and never had any trouble with it again.0

I've had a V reg 75 CDi Club SE for 10 years now, have though about changing it but refuse to let it go for £5-700 so plan to run it into the ground, unless they bring back "scrappage".
It was 3ish years old when I bought it, clutch slave cyl failed after a month and took 6 weeks to get the bits, changed the friction plate too, still ok at 135k miles, touch wood. Other problems, starter motor failed, new brushes from E Bay for a tenner, the original battery lasted 10 years before it died, Crank pulley rubber perished, £300 fitted, speedo stopped working, caused by front brake pad wear lead, £20ish. Boot full of water caused by foam surround to rear light cluster splitting, super glue and bathroom sealent cured the leak.
Biggest ongoing niggle has been front tyre wear on the outer edges, had alignment adjusted but still not right.
Getting about 41-43 MPG on a 60 mile commute, 70-80 MPH not as good as some claim but good enough for size and comfort of ride.
Get lots of "old mans car" comments but everyone who has been in it soon realise how nice the car is.0 -
curtesy of T-CUT over at the MGRoverforums for those who wish to know the the requirements.
heres the alignment requirements, also the steering wheel need to be locked dead centre. full or 90% full tank of fuel, and take out anything in the boot wich the factory didnt have there.
produce these value to a alignment specialist and brim tank no more uneven tyre wear of pull to the left.
ive owned many rovers. wedge shape mostly this is my first 75 and i will get another, ive owned other brands but i keep going back to the rover.
for DIY work on the 1.1 throught to 2.0 its so easy to maintain and change out parts on.
given that the deisel is more of a hands on engine and v6 and v8's the same principal is there its just easy to work on.
youll have a hard job runniong your cdi club into the ground, those pre face lifts are built to last and last and last.
my advice, sell it to someone who appreciates a well looked after rover, mgroverforums aslong as you ask asmin to change your status to red you can advertise yours on the forum, if your a member "hi".0 -
Thanks Atrixblue.-MFR, will print those off and see if it means anything to the 2 tyre places i have used, they seem to want to hook it up to their "laser alignment" machine and whatever that shows is the answer.
Iam a member of both mgrover and 75 and ZT club forums, so Hi, brilliant and knowledgeable members have helped me out with various fixes shown in my other post.
Not sure the car would appeal to many really, it's been well used, maybe not totally abused but not always serviced "on time", pretty much taken for granted. Have probably given it the kiss of death now by shouting how good it is.
