    It's a Rover 75.

    It's not that big!

It is when you've learned in a Corsa/Fiesta and are a newish driver.

(and are the right side of 20)

If I could afford something Crown Vic sized, I would snap it up in an instant. A Rover 75 is plenty big enough for me!

Are people seriously calling a Rover 75 a massive car?

It is no bigger than your average family saloon or hatchback such as a Vectra or Mondeo.

You're right, compared to some larger cars it's not that massive (the current Focus's are pretty big, being not far off the previous gen Passats), but compared to new driver hatchbacks (older Clios, Fiestas etc) it's a huge jump up in size (and comfort).
They are not hard to park and not sure what 4x4's they take up more space than, maybe a Diahatsu Terios or Suzuki Jimny!

I've also got a Chevy Captiva (the last generation one) and the R75 is both wider and longer, but because it's much lower it looks smaller. The difference is obvious when parking in bays though. If you don't believe me look it up :)

Where I find the difficulty in parking the saloons is that both the front and back slope away so you can't see the ends, and makes judging the space remaining fairly daunting initially. The estates are easy to reverse park because the screen is more or less at the end, but we're talking about a saloon here.

I've had 3x 75s (all diesel) and a V6 ZT, I nor also own a small online parts store selling service items for them.

I feel I must warn you... nah, who am I kidding, they're excellent. Enjoy!

The one I was looking at in Kendal is a bit tatty, has no service history and has a mildew/cigarette stench. Which is a shame :(.

Has anybody spotted any particularly good deals anywhere?

I can insure it for £860 with no no-claims bonus, which seems amazing to me considering people seem to pay twice that on a tiny Corsa or similar.

Any chance you could tell me who that was with? I can't get within £2000 of that quote for my 18 yo.

I appreciate that location & other circumstances make a difference though.

I've had my licence a full year now and have pass plus. It's from Admiral through Comparethemarket, though Bell and Elephant (presumably same underwriters) offered similar quotes.

Yes, in Cumbria car insurance is actually affordable. Now I have 4 years NCD I can insure pretty much anything for under £1000.

I'd just keep trawling autotrader and try to swing by the lower priced end of the local car dealerships (because you're looking at a 7+ year old car for under £2k), I've seen some on forecourts here for £995 before.

Check what the quotes are like for the 1.8 petrol; it'll be similar performance to the diesel. It won't be as good on fuel though, but they aren't desireable so you'll be able to get them a lot cheaper if you're not doing many miles.

Always been a fan of rovers, mainly from the same line as the 75 (827 and sd1).

I've never had a vitesse though.
