Barrett - Roof Fell Off.

Ok so exactly as the title states :-(

I'm not happy at all and they are coming out to put it back on.

It's clear that it wasn't fixed on correctly now, and the house is 6 years old so covered by the guarantee.

Anyway my question, it's taken me considerable time and messing about.

Should I be asking for compensation? :D

Why compensation \ betterment? as long as they return the house to its original position and make good any damage,, then thats all that should be expected.

Why do you think you should receive anything more than that?

If you were injured or harmed in anyway then yes..
  • I think I should, because I have spent hours trying to sort it out, costs of phone calls and waiting at home for the repair people. It's caused me actual loss.

I'd document any losses and time spent and put it too them. You might get a goodwill gesture as I'm sure they don't want the bad press of their properties having roofs that just fall off going round...

What do you mean by fell off? If it actually slipped off the house and landed on the ground I would kick up a huge fuss, someone could have easily been killed.

    Clarification needed please OP?

What fell off exactly? A whole roof? A whole section of roof? A section of tiles? Some tiles, felt and rafters? What?

I think you could reasonably be reimbursed for actual costs incurred, but unless goodwill gestures are forthcoming, I'm not sure you'd get much else.

Actual & Quantifiable losses - certainly yes - as long as you can account & provide a means of billing this to the company. If not (Time really can be hard to value!)..then its largely looking for a goodwill consideration.

Your original mention was 'compensation' which really came across as something all together different..

  • Sorry all. A whole section of the roof came down. The tiles were not attached, just placed on until last week when they fell during the nice warm bank holiday monday sunshine.

I was very shocked and because my house is right on the street, they hit the footpath and the front garden, but most stayed in the guttering.

If you can imagine they were all balanced on the edge.
  • Ah, the old compo question...

You'd probably be more successful if you spelt their name correctly: Barratt!!

    Cheers!

Is it really necessary to criticise my spelling of a name?
I didn’t learn how to spell Company names when I was at school, did you? :D
