Well tonight im ready to stop my treatment. Ive come home in floods of tears, had a panic attack and a nose bleed, all stress i presume? One of the nurses has set on me again. She argued, tried to make out i was lying and when that failed she said i was confused! I can assure you there is nothing wrong with my brain. So I asked her to just do her job and not even speak while she did it. She refused left me hooked up and walked off to find someone else to do it. Now today it was in front of other patients. I asked would anyone speak up for me and they all just looked down or away. Probably terrified of getting the same treatment. This is a very condensed version but covers the basics of what happened. Im just too exhausted to write every single thing she did and said.

Please do complain to this hospital's management.

This appalling treatment of patients must not be allowed to continue unchecked.

Hope you're ok. What area of UK are you in? If you are anywhere near me (Merseyside) I'd go with you myself.

This is disgusting OP. But, now you have had a panic attack and are feeling anxious etc, could you not use this to your advantage, play on it and use it as the perfect excuse to bring someone with you so you feel more relaxed?

    Just a idea...

I legally cannot go into too much detail on my complaint from 2011, but initially I contacted PALS and they helped me. I was nearly killed in a major London Hospital due to negligence! It took a year to sort out, but I am not allowed to talk about it.

Please don't let them get away with it!

Please be careful about saying you want to stop treatment it's so bad.

I said this last year (was not bullied but was messed about and misinformed, given contradictory information and then was cancelled on on my way in having taken some drugs i don't want to take too often and whcih make me a bit 'emtional' and it all unsettled me) and now am finding that the dept don't want to see me again because i asked to be taken off the list for the proceedure. (i really did want that at the time, i don't blame them for me being contrary, and i wasn't rude or anything, i just cried and said very quietly that I didn't think i could cope with it )

My gp surgery is supportive and frustrated on my behalf, agreeing I was messed about and maintaining that they feel differently to the consultant about a couple of things and that considering my particular health profile coupled with reluctance to seek treatment that this was at best portrayal 'unfortunate'.

I now always announce that I am iatrophobic (which I am as a result of too many bad experiences) and I find that the sympathetic and kind medical professionals understand and are keen to support me when I seek treatment and the unsympathetic are at least easier to spot quickly. My husband attends all the appointments that he can with me.

I would suggest you talk to your gp as well as pals. about how scared this is making you to maintain your treatment and see if they can help you get some support in place.

I think I would be asking the nurses and anyone within ear shot if they had read the Francis Report into Mid Staffs hospital, tell them you are reading the full report not just the summary and want to know if they would like their names on the next list.

This is shocking behaviour and I would document it all and send it to the Chief Executive of the hospital along with CQC and also my member of parliament.

The very mention of the Francis report and the failings of some of the staff should make them sit up and take notice, failing that I would go to my local newspaper and then onto the nationals, if someone does not listen to you then I would be very surprised.

Mention how you are thought of as an inconvenience and ask them if they are doing everything within their powers to make you as comfortable as possible.

Ask them to speak to you with candour.

This is one of the many recommendations from Francis and it will have been on the agenda of many meetings over the last few months.

Tell them you are unhappy with your care and you are not going to sit back and take shoddy treatment.

Good luck, you have the right to have your voice heard, and your feelings taken into account.

Thankyou all once again for the advice. Yes i will certainly read the Francis report. Although the nurses involved wouldnt have a clue what i was talking about!. Their attitude is awful , they should be ashamed to call themselves nurses. Its like a power trip or something. I am always amazed at when i have finished my treatment they are nowhere to be seen. Well tonight i have a lot of reading up to do and tomorrow a lot of phone calls! Thankyou guys for giving me strength to carry on and not let the bullies win.

it isn't a matter of winning or losing for the nurses IHD. They obviously couldn't care less. For YOU however, you need the medical treatment. I would buy a Dictaphone and whenever a nurse comes near you switch it on. its legal in that YOU know its being recorded and if a nurse disputes what you say - then you have proof otherwise.
this person isn't worth getting upset over. the ward sounds badly run and I doubt the ward manager will be much help. go straight to the top! look on google into the NHS Trust structure and as high as you can on the contact list. then email or write them and TELL them you have proof via the Dictaphone. Meanwhile, try to remain calm during treatments - even if you have to grit your teeth! gather your evidence and think of the outcome you want. and what you will need to achieve it.

    Hi there
So sorry you have to go through this.
Would it be possible to have your treatment at home at all ?
Husband used to be on CAPD it took up quite a bit of room in the house but gave more freedom as he wasn't always having to be at the hospital. and he hated having to go to the unit too.

IHD, I'm so sorry you are going through this.
I am a nurse and don't get me wrong, Im sure I have had my off days and times where I've had to ask a patient to wait while I do 101 other things but your treatment has been appalling. I'd hate to think that a patient of mine was feeling so awful they'd even consider ceasing life saving treatment.
I just wanted to say (although I am sure you are aware of this) if you are going to film be aware of confidentiality...make sure no other patients can be seen or their names/details heard.
I hope this issue gets resolved

It's really nice that a few nurses have said this on this thread. One would hope most peole feel that way, especially people in roles where compassion is so helpful! I wonder if they never notice this in their work at all though.
